This managerie' was still inplace for the church of the gentiles. So Pauline instructions were a shadow of a Worldwide message. Jesus had come to Israel and had been rejected. We must remember much of His prophcy and teaching was to a nation that knew God. With the law overlooking His every word. He was alway careful not to offend one jot or tittle of the Law for he was the fulfillment of the Law.

Paul was given, much to his own dismay, charge of this same world that Israel should have had. He spent the time in Arabia and set in the curch the order of importance.

Now everybody please take a deep breath. Jesus in Matt 16 placed within the apostolic church with the keys a certain levity and neccessity of lawgiving. I feel that to follow the principles and commands closely is advantageous in this hour for the fences that they bring to keep the enemy from our camp. To live beneath the commands is to invite temptation and to put eternity in jeapordy.

Now stop making me set a dividing line for you. I must Pastor the greatest people on earth and I will set the lines for them. Because when the trumpet sounds, even if they're stumbling, i want them stumbling in the church and not out of it.

We cannot judge feelings. The imputed righteousness will bring us to a restored righteousness, and the atonment will take care of the unknown sins. but, Abraham was only imputed righteousness because he came out from among his world and started following God.

I read what you wrote but the cultural argument is not a valid argument. It's true that one of the purposes of the Law of Moses was to set Israel apart from its pagan neighbors, and it's true that the Law of Moses doesn't apply to Gentiles (at least within the context of what was decided in Acts 15), but I cited this particular passage because in arguing against women wearing pants (even pants that are specifically made for women), the UPC often cites the passage in the Law of Moses against wearing that which pertains to a man. And Paul said nothing whatsoever about beards. So, while I might turn the UPCs reliance on the Law of Moses back on them and insist that they must also require their men to have beards, what we can get from the silence in the New Testament on this issue is that it beards are neither required nor prohibilted.

Very probably at times, their foot journeys were not condusive to shaving or haircuts and because of the Law he may have been orthydox in his way. but the long hair was just a mis-interpretive artist conception of being a nazereen. (not nazerite)

What is it that makes you think that it was only "at times"?

is that what you tell your kids ? obey only what you agree with? I know we are not children being pastored by a father but i do think we ought to follow a spiritual leader even at times when we may not quite agree or understand. I can look back at times when my old pastor told me things that years later I can see NOW. but at the time i was younger and thought I had more wisdom. it took me till now to catch up to his wisdom and im still trying to catch up!

We obey what is consistent with the word of God. When Peter and John were commanded not to preach about Jesus or heal in His name, did they comply? No! They decided it was more appropriate to obey God rather than men. Your prohibition against beards not only is not consistent with the word of God it contradicts a very clear command in the word of God (even if that command does only apply to Israel).

If he was orthodox in His tavelling or what we know to be orthodox he didn't shave or trim the beard. If he was a common, he shaved when he rested and not when travelling. Some jouney's lasted weeks, and they only carried water and script, they slept in their robes which were made for that purpose.
