Your right.

Let me state this, it isn't a standard for the church membership, only for those on the Platform of the church. They know I disagree, and I do grow it out at times, but I also will sit down off the platform when i do, Sometimes I want to just take a break from the music and the goatee works wonders! LOL!
But yes I go to an ALJC church....in Oklahoma...

The only reason I was handed a razor was it was short notice and I had to be used that night, so they handed me the razor and off to the bathroom mirror I went.... the only thing I pouted about was I had it almost completely grown out, about 4 more days it would have been a good thick beard, and then I would have taken the followup picture and grabbed my razor.

Why trim it mess up your shaggy look? I trim mine with a barber clippers with a quarter inch attachment, easy and fast.

That's cool; and good for you for keeping a good perspective on things. I didn't want to appear to be too nosey.
I started with an off and on goatee that is now pretty much here to stay. There aren't any platforms that conform to my standards where I don't conform to theirs, so its not been a big deal once I left the Mothership.

Direction Number One-
Stop shaving your chin and upper lip. Also space two finger width on each side of your face and try to not shave that area.

Early Christian attitudes
* St Clement of Alexandria
o "T he hair of the chin showed him to be a man." St Clement of Alexandria (c.195, E), 2.271
o " How womanly it is for one who is a man to comb himself and shave himself with a razor, for the sake of fine effect, and to arrange his hair at the mirror, shave his cheeks, pluck hairs out of them, and smooth them!…For God wished women to be smooth and to rejoice in their locks alone growing spontaneously, as a horse in his mane. But He adorned man like the lions, with a beard, and endowed him as an attribute of manhood, with a hairy chest--a sign of strength and rule." St. Clement of Alexandria, 2.275
o " This, then, is the mark of the man, the beard. By this, he is seen to be a man. It is older than Eve. It is the token of the superior nature….It is therefore unholy to desecrate the symbol of manhood, hairiness.” St. Clement of Alexandria, 2.276
o "It is not lawful to pluck out the beard, man’s natural and noble adornment." St. Clement of Alexandria, 2.277
* St Cyprian
o "In their manners, there was no discipline. In men, their beards were defaced." St Cyprian (c. 250, W), 5.438
o " The beard must not be plucked. 'You will not deface the figure of your beard'." (Leviticus 19:27) St. Cyprian, 5.553
* Lactantius
o "The nature of the beard contributes in an incredible degree to distinguish the maturity of bodies, or to distinguish the sex, or to contribute to the beauty of manliness and strength." Lactantius (c. 304-314, W), 7.288
* Apostolic Constitutions
o " Men may not destroy the hair of their beards and unnaturally change the form of a man. For the Law says, “You will not deface your beards.” For God the Creator has made this decent for women, but has determined that it is unsuitable for men." Apostolic Constitutions (compiled c.390, E) 7.392. (1)

There's the answer for the earlier question about ladies with facial hair. If I'm understanding the archaisms it is "decent" for a woman to "deface" such growth, but forbidden for a man. How soon we depart from the Apostlic paths.
You will notice the "church" was without a television ministry the whole time that Christian men "defaced" their beards. But in these last days, Apostolic television ministry has returned along with the Apostolic beard.

Careful Prax. The next thing you know, we'll be seeing your avatar pic over on his wall of shame.

Interesting picture Pelathais! I'm gradually putting pieces of the puzzle together. It's a very entertaining hobby for some of us "inquisitors"!
I admire your well rounded knowledge of so many subjects. I would try out for "Jeopardy" if I were you. Should be some easy money for such as you.
