Heres the full version of the song when Geron Davis and Tim Pedigo sang it at Alexandria:

Verse 1: I met a man the other day
He looked and me and said
I've seen your kind so many times before
He said "you can't do this, you can't do that"
Your bound by rules and restrictions,
What a dreary life you Christians must observe.(go right to VERSE 2)

Verse 2: Well, I looked him in the eye and I said "YOU'RE WRONG!"
"I can do anything that turns me on, I can smoke 'till my eyes turn red and my face turns blue."
"I can chew and dip,I can snort and cuss. I can party and drink until the sun comes up, but there's better things in life I'd rather do." (You see ....CHORUS)

I choose to be a christian
I choose to be like him
Ain't noboby makin' me do it (The last time through they said "Ain't nobody holdin' a gun to my head)
This is how I want to live
You decide for you and I'll decide for me
the choice is mine this what I choose to be.

Verse 3: Well I must admit that from time to time, the thought of heaven keeps me towing the line.
But the Lord and his comming, sound too good to be true.
Oh, but if this was all just a fairy tale and there was no heaven and there was no hell... I'd still be happy, living like I do. (Cause you see....REPEAT CHORUS then BRIDGE)

Bridge: So don't look at me in sympathy.
And think that I've been cheated, by not doing all those things, that you call fun!
Oh, sometime when you're gettin' down, on the darker side of town
This choice I've made will be lifting me out of here! (REPEAT CHORUS then END)

I know this is a little late but I am pretty sure that I have the chords to this. It is fairly simple and when I used to sing it, I played it in E minor. If you are interested, please let me know and I'll send it to you.

It seemed like a group called The Angel Band did this back in around 88. Either that or it sounded a lot like it.

Re: Need lyrics and chords to I Choose To Be A Chr

I wrote and added one more verse to this song.

Okay, I know I'm a little wacky and off the wall, but once upon a time, after leading praise and worship and singing this wonderful song a lot at a certain church, I got a little tired of the naysayers and unbelivers in the group so I added this verse. I don't know the legal author or the ramifications of this addition, but this spin to the song certainly added another dimension!!!

I choose to be a believer
I choose to trust in Him
There's nobody making me do it
This is how I choose to live
You decide for you, and I'll decide for me
But since the choice is mine this is what I choose to be.

Dan Dean wrote the song, I Choose To Be A Christian, before he became Phillips, Craig and Dean. He came to our church in Madera when Bro. Bow was our pastor and sang it along with several others that he wrote. I remember him telling the story of how he sat at the piano and wrote it. I want to say that he wrote I Will Give You All also but I don't remember him actually saying that he did. It was on his first solo tape though, along with I Choose To Be A Christian.
