you have to wait awhile sometimes, depending on your processor and connection speed.

TalkLady, your computer does not have processor power or memory for GE.

I have Linux, and I had to get a new video card to view GE.

(I use the Linux version of course!)

I tried downloading Google Earth once and it totally crashed my computer. I won't be trying it again.

I went to control panel and set the resolution as recommended (can't remember exactly what that was)......Does anyone use this? My friend uses it to view historic places, geographic areas of interest, etc. I have used the maps at weather.com to locate particular areas with more clarity than google earth.

Thanks,

I was introduced to Google Earth by a friend and it was pretty amazing to me what I was able to see even with the free version.

And yes, I could see house tops, etc.

Any computer that is 2-3 years old (with a broadband connection) can use Google Earth no problem. You just have to remember that a relatively small percentage of the United States has detail over one pixel per 10 meters. It has nothing to do with the program itself... just the map data.
