Re: To Beard or Not to Beard, That is The Question
For those who haven't read the link provided, this is from Bro. Burk's blog entry:
"Any standard preached should help remedy a problem a local church body is facing, which ultimately means that its purpose is for those saints’ spiritual wellbeing. Thus, no leader standing in a pulpit has the license to impose a standard that is based on his own rules or on his own preferences. "
Bro. Burk, if you're reading,

Obviously it hits a nerve here so there must be something connected to it for so many people to up in arms here over a standard. Lot of claims but guarantee not one person here has ever heard someone preach it as a heaven or hell biblical teaching from any respected conservative preacher ( there are always wackos on either side that say dumb stuff that’s why I referenced it with “ respected “)

Bro. Hometown, I'm glad you spoke up. Can you tell me why it is a good standard? How would you present this to a newcomer?

I wouldn’t. Even my dad came to church for 2 years with a mustache. Not one word was said to him. He shaved it all on his own. Now if he would have been wanting to be used. It would have got dealt with.

For the record, I have had only two pastors in my life. Neither presented a standard that men were to be clean shaven. I was clean shaven up until about six weeks ago. And if you haven't noticed, I've been trying my best to defend each pastor's right to run his own place regardless of being left, right, or anything in between.

Fair enough. How is it presented to those who want to be used?

You may not be a preacher (I don't believe you're a wacko either), but you have stated that a seasoned saint with a beard is in rebellion. Either you don't believe rebellion is a sin or you don't wish to connect the dots. If you truly believe a saint growing a beard is rebellion, then you believe it is a heaven/hell issue. Rebellion will send a person to hell.
If that's what you believe, don't be shy about it. Say what you believe.
