Note to libs: Jesus is your Savior, not a Social Justice Warrior.
Note to the ignorant: Jesus is your everything.

Re: "Reclaiming Jesus" Movement

The left has been anti-religious for so long, leaving those Christians who are left of center feeling left out in the cold politically. You'd think that the right would be encouraged that a growing number of people on the left are taking a closer look at Jesus, and actually identifying with Him.

Re: "Reclaiming Jesus" Movement

The right wants religion to be a factor in the public discourse. Well... they're about to get it. lol
James 2:5-9
5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?
6 But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?
7 Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?
8 If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:
9 But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.

I think political neutrality is the best policy for all churches.

I agree. It truly is.

But sadly, that hasn't evolved. Right now, being a Christian is nearly synonymous with being a rightwing Republican. That's real bad for America, seeing that around half of the American people don't identify with or agree with the GOP's agenda. Now, in order to bring balance, we need a view of Jesus that considers the values and compassion that those on the right have ignored.

Re: "Reclaiming Jesus" Movement

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I think Jesus would more likely be found talking to people about the kingdom of God at Bonnaroo, than on Wall Street or even the 700 Club.

They're not identifying with Him.

Did you read the full statement? It wasn't about reclaiming Jesus. Each statement of belief and added rejection was all about #ResistTrump.

Also, they're still very anti-religious. Their 2016 DNC platform proved it.

In fact, the left has moved even further left since the Clinton Presidency and even from 2008. It's almost unrecognizable. Blue-dog Dems are wondering what in the world happened to their party.

These ministers aren't reclaiming Jesus. They're simply playing a charade in their movement to #ResistTrump.

When I was creating this thread, I knew I could count on one person on AFF who would jump on the #ReclaimJesus movement train and embrace their statements.

You mean they are creating a fake leftist Jesus to counter the fake rightwing Jesus? lol That's to be expected. After all, if the right can create a Jesus that blesses the NRA and shrugs His shoulders at all these shootings, no doubt the left will create a Jesus that blesses BLM, and demands equal treatment under the law.

I think both sides don't have a complete picture of Jesus. I'm just sifting through both versions of Jesus and trying to decipher who has the most complete view of Jesus to build upon based on the Jesus I see in Scripture. Honestly, trying to teach the right that Jesus would advocate for polices of compassion and justice for the oppressed, widows, orphans, strangers, and the wages of the hireling is a lost cause. They don't care. They'd tell them, "Seek private charity.", and boast about how many people are in the lines of soup kitchens. But there are essentially only two issues that I think Jesus would take issue with on the left. So, I think the Jesus on the left is closer to the real deal.
