Re: Do You Believe Jesus' Words?

Is the cracker and 10ml grape juice even communion?

Re: Do You Believe Jesus' Words?

seekerman,
I believe the Words of Jesus, just like I believe the Bible in general. What I don't believe is the twisting of scriptures for some obscure and usually false doctrinal point.

I don't get the point of your questioning.

So YES, I believe the Words of Jesus Christ.
Now what?

I dunno. Is there something from Jesus which would indicate this?

Acts 8:30-31 NKJV

So Philip ran to him, and heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, “Do you understand what you are reading?” And he said, “How can I, unless someone guides me?” And he asked Philip to come up and sit with him.

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

We figuratively drink of the Spirit, as it were water. Thus the analogy used by Christ.

We figuratively drink of his blood and eat of his flesh when we are born again. We celebrate this with a typology of his blood and body, the communion elements.

Re: Do You Believe Jesus' Words?

As I said on the other thread, if you do the following, you are NOT eating the Lord's Supper:

1. Multiple, individual wafers.
2. Multiple thimbles of grape juice.
3. Special 'words of consecration' that magically make the wafers and thimbles anything other than wafers and thimbles - including any nonsense about making them somehow now, suddenly, 'represent' the body and blood of Jesus.
4. Deep introspection and going over all one's sins prior to 'partaking' in order to 'not be unworthy' of eating.
5. Standing in line to 'take communion'.
6. 'Taking' communion. (how do you 'take' fellowship????)
7. Requiring only a specially designated person to say the magic words that makes the bread and wine/juice 'special' in some pseudo-catholic mystery religion sense.
8. Failing to see that the FELLOWSHIP of the body of Christ is our joint participation as THE BODY OF CHRIST in God's grace.
9. Failing to see that the FELLOWSHIP of the blood of Christ is our joint participation as THE BODY OF CHRIST IN ONE NEW COVENANT with God by His grace.
Most Protestants commit two great errors in regard to the Lord's Supper.

1. They make it a mere 'symbolic' ritual. IE an empty ritual. The Lord's Supper is most definitely a 'means of grace'.
2. They also, mysteriously, simultaneously, make it a mystery cult rite, a magical ceremony where a special person (clergy) says some special words (the words of consecration) which makes the imitation Mass wafers and the thimbles of juice into some kind of super special 'mysteries'. The only SUBSTANTIAL* difference between a typical Protestant 'communion service' (as practiced by the UPC and others) and a Tridentine Mass or Divine Liturgy is the issue of 'transubstantiation'.

*pun intended.
