I find your simile apt;
a tv can be a monitor,
but a monitor is not a tv?
"Civil union" at least recognizes
that there is no spiritual marriage
in God's eyes, while admitting to
legal marriage, imo.

I'm curious how you might translate
your answer into the everyday?
My answer would be to turn a blind eye,
as a hospital administrator, say,
and do what was right,
and prolly get fired.
