We are to be "in the world," and I suggest that most religious experience would have us ignore this command completely.
Yes indeed. That's about how I took it. It's pretty simple to look at, yet it means a lot more than it says. Thank you for that.

It is easy as a Christian to leap to the ending here, without accepting the beginning, and I am guilty of it myself, ie "The earth is not my home, I am just passing through," in defiance of Scripture which plainly states that the earth is my domain, and final resting place, and that it is satan that will be absent from the earth someday, not me. I believe that this is just another (satanic) characterization of the Kingdom, moving it to some unspecified eternity that will obtain right after "free beer tomorrow," which again I must state I accepted completely at one point in the past.

What does the command "Be in the world..." mean to you?
bump, as I'm hearing a lot of this "the earth is not my home" yack again. If it isn't, what is?

Discover that you are not afraid of hell, and show them.

"This world is not my home."
("on earth, as it is in Heaven...")

Ok, this "I'm not meant for this world, won't be here much longer, gonna fly to heaben" YACK?

Can we address this please? I understand, I sucked on it for like 20 years, and it is DEATH. Thank you.

Well it is a tough mentality to beat... since most of the songs and hymns written about heaven depict heaven that way... we're just gonna fly away on the good ole gospel ship, and have a mansion next door to Jesus...

Can you explain to us exactly what it was that made you begin to believe and see it otherwise?

I became uncomfortable with it almost immediately, but followed for years, lacking a lexicon to communicate my concerns, especially into such an overwhelming majority. Don't even get me started on "Christian" lyrics. Ha, singin' "Fly to Heaben," and praying "On earth, as it is in Heaven," how long can you do that and sleep at night? Praying the Lord's prayer every day prolly started it.

Um, I'd really have to think to give you a thoughtful answer, as it was a process. I did not see "Life, more abundantly," from people I knew to be good hearted. The difference in what I read in red, and the fruit I was looking at. The fact that no one ever told me "Creation is continuous, and never stops," or "Trust that God delights in your unique way of producing fruit."

The message was designed to remove a believer from Now, imo, effectively killing them, from God's pov.
That Understand Death Centric Western Christian Models thing I'm always ranting about (that is about to get deleted at wikiHow-better hurry, lol).

Re: Be In the World

For me, what really opened my eyes was reading the OT prophets speaking always of life here on earth after the terrible judgments of the Lord... it seemed to me they weren't speaking of heaven in another place, but heaven here on earth...

Re: Be In the World

"The meek shall inherit" should tell anyone all they need to know. Rapture doctrine had me so flummoxed that I thought we were supposed to be brash until I was like 18, lol.
