My sister is an RN. She left clinical nursing to be an at home Medical Trascriptionist. She enjoys the flexibility and the fact that she just walks into another room in her house to go to work. She does however miss the interaction with people. Like anything you have to give up some things to do something different. For the most part she does like it though.

I understand that. There were so many changes I had to get used to when I chose not to go to work after Katrina. Beside losing everything and relocating so far away from family, it was hard to be at home in the beginning.

I have a neice who was a legal secretary for years in Mobile, Al. Now she transcribes legal documents at home for that same Attorney. If you already know legal jargon, and are already trained for that field, maybe transcribing at home for an attorney would be more feasable for you.

My office contracts out medical transcription. You get paid by the line. You have to be a fast typist to make good money. We have a six week course in my city at the community college for medical terminology/transcription. Also, a girl at my church is taking an online training course right now.

Can you use a voice recognition program? That is much faster then typing.

I did lose much of my knowledge since I have not used it in so long. I love the legal field, but cannot stand most of the type of people it tends to draw...especially MOST of the lawyers!!
