Why should it be dismantled? What do you propose in it's place?

That said, since the church, local churches I might add, doesn't do well with this area, I find myself leaning toward social liberal tendencies. I find that often it is more about the size of the church, all the niceties, and all the amenities than pushing for moderate living across the board from the saint to the pastor.
But that's just me...

This is very true. In fact I have an IEP for one of my children tomarrow. 2 of my children are on the autism spectrum. I have always been thankful for all the help we recieve with socializing, occupational therapy, speech therapy, sensory therapy and much more. They have counciled us with finding good docturs and more.

How do you think you would fare with no help? What if you were homeschooling? Could you do it?

IF (I am not convinced) public education is a neccessary evil, then the state or county could do it at a fraction of the cost.

Possibly. I would like to see what your idea is for what this proposed school would be like.

I doubt we could afford it. Not just paying for all the therapy they recieve in the school system, but all the transportation involved.
I have been in contact with other more experianced mothers than myself. They have said they homeschool and are still intitled to special sevices. I am sure it depends on the state you live in. Steven, the 5 year old, really needs the socialization and structure it offers and he enjoys it.
The needs of autistic children and parents are so great. It can be alot to deal with. As I stated, I do know other moms who have taken the challenge on. One I know of, homeschools her "normal" kids and sends the autistic child to school. I do not know sometimes....it is stressful and a real worry.

My ideal would be to give the parents more power. At a minimum there should be vouchers for expense in alternatives to public education, be that private, homeschool etc.
