Oh. So that's how "and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost" is a command, and not a promise. Uh huh.

Sigh. I guess I'm just posting and not thinking. I wish I could think, but I guess I can't.

Sigh. You asked a question and I tried to answer it. My comment was not made to be a criticism of you but to reiterate the fact that understanding scripture takes time and study. See also, Isaiah 8:10-11. For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little: For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.

Guess I haven't studied enough, then. It must take a loooooong time to arrive at the "correct" interpretation!

Two commands and a promise. Then we look at example and other scripture in the NT that points to the importance & necessity of being Spirit "endued" with the accompanying power, anointing, and gifts for service and ministry.

Like it or not, being filled with the Holy Ghost is neccassary to recieving salvation. Like it or not, speaking in tongues is the first evidence a person has that they have indeed recieved this gift. God, who does not show favoritism, will give the gift of the Holy Ghost to anyone who is willing to recieve it. It is all within the book.

Like I said, God bless you.

So, where exactly does the Bible specifically SAY that being filled with the Holy Ghost is necessary to receiving salvation (and at which point did the Apostles receive it; when Jesus breathed on them and said "Receive ye the Holy Spirit" or on the day of Pentecost)? Where does the Bible specifically SAY that speaking in tongues is the first evidence that one has received the Holy Ghost. I want you to show me exactly where the Bible says what you're claiming "is all within the book" and not your interpretation of what's there.

And I thought I was talking to "Timmy".

When the heart is convicted and the question arises, "What shall we do?" The answer is always the same. If a person has not yet recieved the gift of the Holy Ghost, then Acts 2:38 has not yet been fulfilled in that person's life. Just as it had not yet been fulfilled in the lives of the folks at Ephesus. They had yet to be baptised in the name of Jesus.

Your questions, Chan, are quite silly to me. They require nothing more than simply recognizing what happened on the day of pentecost.
