In the past few years I've visited dentists with some attempts to distract you.
A lady dentist giving me my first root canal had headphones and you selected music you liked to lay back and relax. (when you tend to be sleep deprived.........you fall asleep

)
More than one dentist has a tv mounted on the wall; one had a huge selection of movies and you could request a favorite.
Compared to the horrid chairs of the 50's and 60's the new "chaise lounge chairs" are an improvement.
And only a few of my many dental procedures involved dental insurance
