Well, I got out when I was 27 so I guess they lost one, gained one.
Really though, when I read you say you agree with the standards because you'll do anything to please Him, it breaks my heart. If you could only see how little you have to do to please Him. You please Him and He loves you just because you are. From the foundation of the world He saw you and you pleased Him then.

Well I guess if we gave the UPC a metaphorical heart then I guess you could say they have a heart problem.
As for me I have been given a new heart one that doesn't have to determine if another man's servant is living right.
One that can play sports and glorify God while doing it.
One that knows I am loved for who I am in Christ not for what I do.

I will do anything to please Him. I have no desire to be a man pleaser. I am confident when I say God doesn't love anyone for the clothes they wear or the jewelry they don't wear.

The preaching of the Rapture being close at hand, put many of our lives on hold in our youth and college age. It would have been good to have a balance and many may be further ahead.

Re: I am so thankful to have been raised in the UP
Uh hum, I understand Baron's TIC post...but I know what you meant Kristan's Mom - I am no longer UPC, I'm thankful for my roots even though I think the organization has it's flaws. I also don't spend my minutes and hours, days and nights, weeks, months and years rehashing what those flaws are. I am thankful I wasn't born into the FDLS too...I'd like to think I'm such an independent woman that if I had been born into that, that I would have taken such a strong stand and left!! LOL
Sorry for the "meanness" of this post, but I just get so tired of it...every time I come here, that's what it is all about...the UPC and their latest flaw...off my soapbox

Re: I am so thankful to have been raised in the UP
I wasn't raised in the UPC. I came in when I was 20.
I would not be alive right now if not for what Jesus did for me. Jesus used this little UPC with their conservative pastor.
I discovered sometimes along the way they some things they taught were not necessary, I adjusted my views appropriately without becoming jaded and I still go to a UPC

- There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
- The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
- Every sinner must repent of their sins.
- That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
- That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
- The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Re: I am so thankful to have been raised in the UP
I can't say that I'm thankful I was raised UPC, it wouldn't be truthful of me.
I've read Escape, Stolen Innocence, When Men Become Gods, and several other books about the FLDS. It's a horrible and scary organization. I can truthfully say that I'm thankful I wasn't raised FLDS.

Re: I am so thankful to have been raised in the UP
I was raised independent Pentecostal...far more conservative that the UPC...glad I was raised that way it has made me carefully consider doctrine and convictions however I do not believe certain things and today most of the people who taught them do not either!
I still am very conservative to many but in the process of time I learned to be kind and considerate.

Re: I am so thankful to have been raised in the UP
I wasn't raised UPC. I came to know the UPCI in Japan.
I had a relationship with the Lord-- saved, sanctified and filled with the Holy Ghost BEFORE knowing about the the UPCI.
God used the UPCI to help me-- He used this organization as a platform for me to encounter the LORD for myself, as an adult.
I don't agree with a couple "core doctrines" any more, but I'll never forget what the Lord has done for me, in me, and through me as a Christian attending an UPC.
