Honestly, the earth is billions of years old. How do you conclusively determine what are "normal" temperatures for our planet? Weather patterns change, temperatures change. There was an ice age once. There are records of a warming period in Europe where parts of the British Isles were producing vinyards where they no longer could today.

Its a smokescreen to try to control our lives and impose on our freedoms. Its also an attempt to destroy capitalism.

6-12 inches coming tomorrow. What I don't get is that society closes schools for snow, yet all us grownups are still expected to show up for work, on time, and regardless of how far we have to drive to get there.

the employee handbook words "allow yourself extra time to get to work during inclement weather" really means... get up and leave an hour and a half early so you can be at your desk on time.

if one were to take the last 600,000 years or so, the average temperature of the earth is a dozen degrees cooler than today.

and the earth will return to that cooler state somewhere in the next 3 to 6 thousand years. If you were to look at a graph, you would see that we are near the peak temperature and the earth is now moving into its eliptical pattern.

For this interglacial, between 9 and 4 thousand years ago, the average temperature was about 5 degrees cooler than today.

about a thousand years ago, and lasting for 300 years, the average temperature was about 1.5 to 3 degrees cooler than today.

we have seen a warming trend for about 150 years with only the last 30 years being warm enough to have caused any concern.

It appears that the warming may be nearing an end... which doesnt bode well for the church of global warming.

What is so disturbing to me is people who will vote for someone who believes this nonesense or at least claims to and seeks to "lead" this nation into treaties and agreements that will further cripple this economy, impose costly regulations and restrictions on American businesses and hinder our independence as individuals and as a country.

I'm an outdoorsman. I love nature. I hunt, fish, camp, hike, boat, swim and love God's green earth. I'm all for being a good caretaker of our planet. I try to practice responsible behavior. But this psuedo-science, politically driven theory that is full of holes and inconsistencies drives me nuts. Especially when liberals/progressives condescendingly talk down to anyone who challenges or even questions its veracity.

In 10 to 20 years when global cooling is the new reality to the same degree that "warming" is today to the elite, the cap and trade style programs put in place will be as entrenched as any other government entitlement. CO2 will still be regulated because of course it will be responsible for the cooling taking place......

The term "Global Warming" was a misnomer. You see, the concept was that the atmosphere is heating and melting polar ice caps. This is causing ocean temperatures to vary. As ocean temperatures vary weather patterns change and this brings colder winters and hotter summers, in addition to unique weather in some areas where such weather was unheard of. Since this misnomer has caused many people experiencing colder winters to sneer with statements like, "They call this global warming.", it was obviously necessary to redefine the term more properly to "Climate Change".

Ferd, obviously you're hard of reading. I had said,

It became popular myth after Katrina because it was suggested that GW would lead to more extreme patterns. However, that has not been the case at all.

I'd not rule out more extreme occurances in the future. Just me.

you cannot have extreme cold swings in a climate where warming is being drivin by a CO2 forcing effect. If anything the CO2 forcing will mitigate natural patterns.

Weather patters are more impacted by ocean temperature.

The SCIENCE does not agree, and the scientists.... even AGW proponents have distanced themselves from this myth.

Depends on the research. If we seek to see if atmospheric temperature is raising temperatures globally the answer is definately no. However, if we find that atmsopheric temperature is increasing in the polar regions, melding ice caps, causing wider variations in ocean temperatures, thus impacting weather patterns the answer is yes.

I believe that even if climate change is the result of man's behavior there are private solutions. We don't need a global government regulating the daylights out of us.

That's the point. Again, "Global Warming" is a misnomer. Global Warming will most likely bring colder temperatures not hotter.
