My first paycheck I took and paid the past due bill and deposit they required… it took my whole check, but at least we had hot water and winter was coming. I was pretty bad off financially, and I spent the next several months trying to catch up bills that had been let go.
I’m not sure who let my office know of the circumstances because I did everything in the world to hide it… but starting with Thanksgiving and every week till Christmas, my car was filled with groceries, household goods, gas cards, Walmart cards, personal items…
On Christmas, they got a family member to let them in my house and I came home to tons of presents around the tree. They spared no expense… the girls got lots of clothing, coats and stuff for the winter. Toys and even sleds for the snow… it was an awesome site to see. I even got presents that year… they bought me a set of dishes from pottery barn among other things…in the colors of my kitchen…they really thought it out, and they bought as if they were buying for their own families.
I was so shocked and surprised at all the presents because they had already done so much from Thanksgiving on.
I have worked for this company for over six years now, and they have been very good to me…I will never forget their kindness to me.

Re: best Christmas present ever
My husband came home this afternoon and said that ONE of my presents is so huge that he can't wrap it! I have no idea what in the world that could be?
I can't think of one thing. What could it be?

Re: best Christmas present ever
My "best" Christmas present wasn't a single gift, but several given at the same time. I was 15 years old and received a 1541 5.25 floppy drive for my Commodore 64 along with the game Zork III. I also got Lode Runner in cartridge form.
I do not think I ever had quite as much fun with a computer hardware purchase since that night!

"best" has different definitions based on stage of life:
Age 14 Christmas: I was into plastic models then and that year the gods of modelers rained all their blessings on me. I got tons, warships, tanks, dioramas.. me, glue and paint were best buds for 6 months. That may explain some things.
Age 17 Christmas: Was taking vocational building construction in hih school. Wanted to be a carpenter (glad I go past that). Santa left a bunch of tools under the tree. Good too;s, hand tools, power tools. all of the highest quality. Funny how Santa had the same taste in tools as my dad. Maybe that was when I stopped believing in Santa Claus.
That was followed by a bunch of Christmas I don't remeber details of, except one of the "in the military" ones where I spent xmas day with a bottle of mezcal and a microwave burrito.
Age 37 Christmas...WooooHooo,mother-in-law got me the George Foreman grill-rotisserie combo. My wife said "My mom must sure like you".
The very best Christmas gift I ever received age 31:
I was a new convert, alone. Didn't have nobody to spnd Christmas with and was feeling a bit alone. one of the little girls from the church brought me a little hickory farms gift thing she had picked out just for me.
That was the first time I ever cried on Christmas.
This year...age 47, don't need a thing but my people... i am content.

Re: best Christmas present ever
One of the best Christmas presents I ever got was when my husband and I were first married, had a baby, and were poor. He worked at a glass shop and he saved bits and pieces of beveled mirror scraps. Then he made me a beautiful square mirror. (Large pieces on the outside and smaller pieces until in the middle there is just a very small square. Beautiful but hard to explain.)
He was so excited about this that I was afraid I wasn't going to like whatever he made for me. He kept telling me about this "surprise" Anyway, it is one of my prized possessions.

Re: best Christmas present ever
The year that I was in the 4th grade my dad had 3 heart attacks before Christmas. We knew ahead of time that there was going to be NO presents. We didn't have enough money for food and utilities, let alone gifts.
On the 23rd we had a visit from a local church (not the church we attended, I don't think. Altho my mom told me today that it was. I don't really know. I was young ) Anyhow, they came in lugging boxes...........and boxes............and boxes............and boxes of stuff!!
They loaded our kitchen table with food things. The fun part was that they had wrapped every single can, bag, loaf of bread, everything!!! The 5 of us had the best time opening all of those "gifts"!!!
And then they left my parents with boxes of things for Christmas morning. The only thing I had hoped for that year was a Barbie doll. I knew it was impossible tho. So imagine my surprise when I opened the gifts from the church on Christmas morning and found Barbie, Ken, Midge, and Skipper. Along with tons and tons of clothes for all of them!!
The best part of that experience wasn't the gifts. It was experiencing the love of God's people first-hand. It's something I will never forget. And it has had a life-long affect on what I do for others at Christmas time ('nuff said)
