its going to be really hard for Huck to overcome this. the right will use it as proof that he was soft on crime. The left will attack him because their guy got axed (Willie Horton).

I was not aware of Huckabee's connection with this incident in WA. I do find it quite interesting that he would make the following statements
"Should he be found to be responsible for this horrible tragedy, it will be the result of a series of failures in the criminal justice system in both Arkansas and Washington State," Huckabee said in a statement issued Sunday.
"If I could've known nine years ago, looked into the future, would I have acted favorably upon the parole board's recommendation?” Huckabee told Fox News Radio on Monday. “Of course not."
I wonder if he was referring to himself when he made that statement. Based on the second statement he is definitely kicking himself . The troubling thing to me outside of the suspects criminal history is that what Huckabee said. "If I could've know nine years ago, looked into the future"; that is precisely the reason why this man should not have had his sentence commuted, so that nine years into the future this very situation would not have occurred.
You have to wonder why the parole board recommended his pardon?

Most likely to make room for all those dangerous people convicted of non-violent drug charges (who last I heard make up more than half of the prison population). It is sad, it happens to often, and most likely those responsible will never be held accountable...they rarely are.

Who are you referring to with the last sentence?
Parole boards? Governors? drug users? violent criminals?

He is only conservative when he is doing an interview, in practice he has never been. Not a fan of Huckleberry at all. I would have voted for just about anyone on the Republican side last election ahead of him.

I think that the position that we are put in due to overcrowding and the need to make room is ridiculous. There are too many stories like this of very dangerous, violent career criminals getting paroled long before they should and sometimes in cases where they never should. From a practical stance, we are all victims of the "War on Crime" as it is.
Most of what I've read says that more than half of those incarcerated are incarcerated for drug offenses. The game that is being played within prison industry is ridiculous.

I have a few friends in Arkansas that told me not to vote for him in the last primary. I don't remember a lot of the reasons why, but they didn't like him at all. They are registered Republicans.

Most of these have not had a jury trial, but are there on a plea bargain. Which is every Americans right due to the 6th Amendment. Only problem is no one wants to do jury duty or know enough of the law to make a good judgment.
