It buys him time to try and figure out what to say.

Um...miss red jacket is an idiot.

"Spending tons of money" (and cutting taxes) is an "EASY" decision for Republicans?

Same ole blame game. It's the Republicans fault. Except the Dumocrats have ruled Congress for many years..........and Congress controls the purse strings.

The Democrats have controlled Congress since 2006 and the Republicans controlled it for twelve years previous to that and it's all Dem's fault? That wreaks of Rush Limbaugh type smack talk that doesn't even make sense.

The Republican party, both President and Congress, plunged this country into record national debt over the last eight years. Now suddenly with the country in the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, and the majority of economists in agreement that a stimulus plan is a MUST, you Repubs have suddenly decided big spending government isn't good?

Where've you been for the last 8 years??

You know this whole economic crises wasn't only the Republicans fault.

And how is Obama doing anything different? There is no CHANGE here. He isn't planning on stopping the war (and its expenses)--simply relocating it--with no clear date to end it! And his "stimulus" package is in addition to the one that went through under Bush, except it's MORE money spent!!!!

The majority of economists are in a agreement over the stimulus plan? Are you kidding?

The media is being hypocritical as usual...reporting glossed over, flattering reports about Obama, and thus far, with the exception of a few brown-nosing policy changes, he hasn't done anything different financially than the Bush administration. Nothing. Not even in regard to war, which is what most Dems have been bellyaching about for the last 8 years.

Change schmange. It's more of the same, except with a few less morals.

Re: Obama's 1st address to the nation

Mike, from mid-2001 to 2003, the Democrats controlled the Senate, thanks to James Jeffords.
I do agree with you that much of the blame belongs to the Republicans going spend happy the last few years.
Also, no one has had a super majority since 1977-1979 for the Democrats and we know how well that went.

You know me well enough PO, to know I agree with that.

What's strange to me is to see Repubs on this forum and everywhere, that were perfectly complacent to see huge tax breaks handed out to the top tax bracket and Wall Street over the last 8 years and now they've suddenly found their voice about debt and big spending. It's very hypocritical.
