Sis. T,
Yes, I know Sis. Sharon ...she is the staff counselor at the church in Mesquite. She also counsels at several other churches...one very well known. I wish our church had the ability to do this...our Pastor is working on it.
Anyway...I went to the job interview. They agreed with the Biblical teaching on Marriage and Divorce as I believe the scripture to believe it with one exception. They do not feel those who are in abusive marriages have a right to divorce. When I explained that I felt scripturally they had the right to divorce but not remarry except in the case of adultery...they felt they could live with that.
They want me to join their church. It runs about 10,000 people. I am going to their Saturday night service and see how I feel about it. They told me to try the service, pray about the job, and if I am still interested to call them on Monday and they will set me up with two other interviews, one the financial person of the church, and the other...the Pastor.
So, continue to pray...I want the will of God to be done. I wish our churches were set up for what I do...but most don't. I may have to work outside our ranks for a time. We'll see what God says about it.
Thanks again for everyone's prayers!
Blessings, Rhoni

Tonight I went to the Easter Service at the church I interviewed with. There were several thousand people in tonight's service. It was very good. Contemporary music, a full orchestra, and the Pastor spoke an awesome message on the Faith Heroes. I met with the Pastor and will be speaking with him again this week.
The counseling center has a very good reputaion in this community and I would be honored to be a part of it. Still praying.

Just an FYI...I could not in good conscience become a member of the church. The doctrinal foundation is Southern Baptist and I can't counsel from that perspective. If it had been Charismatic, Apostolic minus the rigid dress standard, and even full gospel...but I do have my limits and I can't counsel from a Baptist perspective. I discussed it with the head of the counseling center this afternoon and I am comfortable with the decision.
Thank-you everyone for the prayers. I think I made the right decision and will wait for an open door in our ranks.

you didnt know the basic doctrinal stance of the church before you applied/interviewed for the job??? That might have been the very first thing I'd personally want to know about a church.... jmho
regardless, may God guide you in your future endevours....

Mal,
I was of the opinion that it was a Charismatic Church. AS IT STANDS...IT IS AN INDEPENDENT Baptist/a split from Southern Baptist. They wanted me to embrace the doctrine and become a member fo the church...I'd have too slide back. I've come to far.

Rhoni,
If your desire is to work as a counselor full time at a Spirit filled church then you could not be in a better place than Dallas.
There are a lot of large Charismatic, Pentecostal, AOG and I am sure COG churches there who probably have staff counselors.
Have you checked with Mike Hayes Covenant Church yet?

Covenant Church is so far from Rockwall where I live. I guess I could move. I have an interview in Plano this next week. God knows where I am and what he has in mind for me...I do trust Him but am so impatient. I have quite a few friends that go to Covenant...I guess I should talk with them.
Blessings, Rhoni
