Re: Olympics last night

I was amazed at how the commentators were saying that they generally take the Chinese gymnasts away from their homes at around 3 years old. They said that they may generally only see their parents once a year. I know that their government uses certain sports as a vehicle of nationalism and pride, but that is just extreme to me.

Re: Olympics last night

Olympic gymnasts must be 16 the year of competition. Passports are provided for proof of age. There has been controversy with some of the chinese gymnasts.

What concerns me is what happens to them if they do not win or make their country proud. I shiver at the thought.

That and also what are they feeding into those little 12 year old bodies to bulk them up enough to be able to compete? How many steroids have they been filled with in their young lives?

On the other hand, I worry about that with almost all of our Olympic athletes from every country. The competition is so fierce that the lengths they will go to win are scary!

Re: Olympics last night

I felt horrible for Alicia Sacramone[i think that was her name] last night. I know that her team has stated that they do not blame her, but I'm sure that many others do.

She has struggled the entire time tho. The first night, in tumbling, she got a low score for stepping out of bounds. She felt terrible then.

The gasp when she fell both times was audible.
I was surprised at Shawn Johnson and Nastia whatever for stepping out of bounds, but they both had great routines.

But although the Chinese team was astounding, the fact that one of the girls didn't look a day over nine kept me from focusing completely on the gymnastics aspect. I think she was the one with the missing tooth.

Yeah and it appears that Iran is a tad conservative as well. Who knew.

If any one on her team blames her then they are not really a team. If one messes up then they all do.
