Re: United States Men Beat Frogs For Gold!!!

I think the track and field sprints (100, 200, 4x100 relays) could be just as exciting.

Re: United States Men Beat Frogs For Gold!!!

I too saw this last night. I was up late working and watching the Olympics, and I was trying to be quiet since DH was already upstairs asleep, but I was clapping and cheering. I think I scared my cat half to death.

So exciting...that's why I love watching the Olympics.

It was AMAZING!!! The replays they showed of Michael Phelps cheering were priceless...and then watching that arrogant man who said he'd crush him was even better. He couldn't get out of the pool!

The best part is that when one of the French swimmers was asked awhile back about facing the Americans in this event at the Olympics he stated that the Americans were why they were coming to the Olympics and that the French team was going to crush the Americans!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!!!!

Thanks for posting the link! I was exciting seeing it all over again! Awesome race!

After the third leg, I was kind of feeling sorry for Michael Phelps as this would ruin his quest for 8 gold medals. Was he excited or what???????

Re: United States Men Beat Frogs For Gold!!!

We watched the race last night too. My husband was sleeping in the chair and said something about going to bed- I said I would stay up and watch the rest of the races. He got interested in the swimming and then could not go to bed after the race. Exciting!

CC1 is a great guy, but the title he put on this thread is classless, tasteless, and ignorant. (Deacon's use of "Frenchie" isn't much better.)

On this side of the border, the epithet that he used is about as acceptable as the "N" word is on your side.

Maybe we could compromise and retitle the thread "Barnyard Squabble: American Pigs Beat Frogs For Gold." (Unless you might find that offensive.)

MapleLimb,

According to the Word Detective below is the origins of the term "frogs" referring to the French;

Frog" was indeed at one time a popular derogatory term for a French person, though it didn't start out quite that way. Originally (around 1330), "frog" was applied by Britons to almost any group they found objectionable, and was aimed at both Jesuits and the Dutch before it was decided in the late 18th century that the French, with whom England was then at war, were the real "frogs." The rationale for the term, to the extent one is ever really needed in such cases, was the French consumption of frogs' legs (anathema to the beef-loving British), as well as the presence of frogs on the coat of arms of the city of Paris. "Frog" is still used as an insult, especially in Britain, but many other once-popular anti-French coinages are rarely heard today, including "French pox" (syphilis), "French leave" (desertion from one's post in wartime), and simply "French" (foul language, as in the apologetic phrase "Pardon my French" offered after swearing).

Based on the above my respone to your post is;

Pardon my French!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."
