Re: If You Like J.T. Pugh

Those of you young whippersnappers who think good preaching can only be screamed and involves the congregation jumping up and down at your every word need to listen to this man preach.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

While I like loud as much as most of us UPCI people, there is no substitute for substance.

this message is long on substance. Brother Pugh is awesome, but i am still mad at CC1 for not providing a proper warning. I was sitting here at work trying not to cry.

Re: If You Like J.T. Pugh

A small anecdote; many years ago my father and JTP preached/taught at a conference in Arizona. Something that Bro. Pugh said in his sermon really bothered my father so after service that nite I was kicked out of my room and they had a loooong discussion. I was about 13 at the time and it made a impact on me that 2 'big guys' could disagree agreeably.

PS- never did find out what that was about....though I asked both of them several times.

Not only could they disagree agreeably but they were able to keep it between themselves!

That is a testimony right there!

J.T. Pugh is one of the greatest men in shoe leather, and powerful and brilliant preacher who is a true Christian from the stump out.

I love this man.
