aaarrrrggggghhhh!
ofcourse FOR THE VAN.... *oh wait a minute, this is D4T.....*
Yes sir, the van sir!
Whew... that was a close one.
We were preapproved per one of the ebay lenders. They informed us to what dollar amount we were approved and to what portion of the vehicles value we were approved.
I did make a mistake with this one. It was out of state so I couldn't pay the sales tax at the time of closing. I did include an excellent extended warranty coverage in the loan and, had I had the forethought, I would have included an estimated sales tax in the loan at closing.
I had no idea that Louisiana would charge me nearly $1400.00 for the privilige of purchasing a vehicle while possessing domicile in their state.
The lender also let us know what they would be willing to roll into the loan (extended warranty, sales tax etc).
I don't even remember the entirety of your question and I am not sure if this answers all of your questions but it is at least a start.
I bought this van (in excellent condition) for several thousand dollars less than I could have bought a 2005 model locally with fewer extra and more mileage.
It was a 2006 Ford Freestar with leather seats, DVD, 6 Disc CD, Dual air (heat blows from the floor in the back) with 4 seperate climate controls so different people can enjoy different temperatures etc etc etc with 24000 miles on it for a little over $13,000.00.
Amazing deal. The guy took a ton of pictures of every single possible defect and the vehicle was better than described.
I would have never thought I would buy a vehicle off of ebay but this guy goes over and beyond the call of duty to explain the vehicle to you... he answers every question quickly... and I would buy again from him in a second.
he is a small dealer... he does a lot of research and only buys vehicles that he would be pleased for his own family to drive... he only handles 1/2 dozen or fewer vehicles at a time... small operation... great service... I hope he does well for years to come.

thanks for sharing your good experience.
I was only familiar with person-2-person auto sales on ebay (I think your mini-dealer is bit different but still would have similar hurdles to overcome).
things like a local inspector were dispatched in these P2P deals and they came with sizeable 79-159 price tag. I was wondering if you did this--apparently you did not!
the second thing is the whole need to "hold monies" pending delivery and title transfer.
That was my mention involving escrows. A few years back there were "PayPal" type operators (TradeEnable) that escrowed the bigger dollars amount until both parties had an equitable agreement in force.

Okay....
We did not use an inspector. We drove to Dallas to pick up the vehicle and once funding was approved by the lender we immediately drove the van home.
We had no need for escrows etc.
Only $500 was due as a down payment... the rest was received by the seller after we arrived in Dallas and had seen the vehicle for ourselves.
I have bought musical instruments, PS2 games, a 2006 Ford Freestar Van and am awaiting the arrival (tomorrow) of my first laptop computer purchased from ebay.
Some have expressed a little shock that I would trust ebay as a source to buy some of these items.
I have bought MANY items from ebay and only came out bad on one. It was a PS2 splitter type thingy and I learned something from the purchase.
First... it was shipped from CHina... forget it... it has to be local or it isn't worth the trouble if it doesn't work.
Second... There was a money back warranty on the item but it was being sold for ONE DOLLAR with about $10 shipping. So you can only get your $1 back,
So... one bad experience... and I learned... I now buy with more assurance than ever before.
I watch feedback... I do my due research... and I don't know if there are any items that I would NOT buy from ebay.
How about you?
1. NEVER buy anything from another country except Canada. You are pretty safe there, but sometimes it can be a hassle. You will also wait about 6 weeks to get whatever you buy.
2. Feedback! Don't buy anything, especially high priced items from anyone with less than 30, and they all have to be positive. The only exception is if they have a neg from a newbie who cited them for something stupid like slow shipping (as if sellers have control of the mail system) or charging high shipping prices (if you don't like the shipping quote, DON'T BID!).
3. There are people who sell for a very low price but charge excess in shipping. They do this because Ebay only takes their fees from the selling price, not the shipping price. It's not that big a deal to me, but if you have problems, you might only get the selling price back, as you mentioned above.
4. Ask questions before bidding. I once bought a cordless phone believing that it come with a battery and plug. It didn't. The ad said it was for the phone, but I didn't realize that the obvious wasn't included.
5. Read the ad completely. I had a seller not long ago dispute the authenticity of a suit coat I sold. He claimed that the company never made a washable suit coat and that someone (accusing me, actually) had switched the label. Yeah, right. Like I know how to do that! Well, I called the company personally as well as emailed them and they did make a washable suit coat years ago. I had also stated in my auction that it was machine washable, so it was obvious he hadn't read my auction. Besides, I told him that for $20 total with shipping, he got a good deal and shouldn't complain!
He didn't leave me neg feedback, but I was going to take action if he had. Never heard from him again.
I might have more ideas later. I'm a seasoned seller and buyer, and I've learned a lot by the experiences of others. I've never had a problem.

Yep... I haven't heard about the steal/sell on ebay thing you are speaking of but, as with anything, due diligence is required.
I tend to buy from Power Sellers (who could also be Power Thieves for all I know ) or do plenty of reserach to check into what I am buying and who I am buying from.
The guy I bought the van from is an EXCELLENT seller and I will probably buy my next vehicle through him if he is still there (and I have a feeling he will be)
Can you send me the name of the seller? I'm interested in buying another vehicle in the next 6 months but I'm leery of doing that, sight unseen and without knowing who I'm buying from.
My brother just bought two trucks and a car from Ebay, two of them from private sellers. The car was for our mom and she loves it! My brother bought it from a new seller with 0 feedback, and I was really nervous, but he was true to his word about it!
