Dear Michi,
I am extremely jealous that your advice thread has more hits than mine. As always, when stressed or depressed, I begin to stuff my face with Ben & Jerry's ice cream and chocolate cake. How do I control this unhealty defense mechanism?
Signed,
Licking my fingers

My doctor told me to go join Weight Watchers!
I now have bursitis in my leg after my surgery and he said get the weight off.
At my age we are talking major difficult.
I eat very small amount of food, however, it is the wrong food. I am not a big fan of just eating as some are.
I have gained the extra weight in the last two years from surgery.
My metobolism is extremely slow. I stay tired.
My sucess in losing weight in the past was diet pills that got pulled from the market.

I use a website named Calorie-count. It is simular to Spark people. I found that it is a real good tool to keep me on track.

Since Sept. 17th I have lost 27 lbs. I started in a diet program that is similar to Jenny Craig, but for the last 2 months I have been counting calories and exercising. I walk 1 hour a day at least 5 days a week. MY new goal is to keep the weight off!!!!!!

Dear Mich,
I struggle with excercizing every day. I homeschool 3 of our 4 boys...I can't leave the house to walk, because our oldest has proven himself way too untrustworthy. It's best for me to exercize first thing in the morning...but this past couple of years I've struggled to get out of bed early. What shall I do? I cannot afford to go to the gym either.

The easiest way to do this, is burn 500 calories in exercise, and eat 500 calories below your BMR (basal metabolic rate). This is the number of calories your body burns just to keep you alive, blood circulation, breathing, etc.
The site that I used: www.sparkpeople.com will calculate this for you based on your height and weight, exercise level and how fast you want to lose weight (up to 2 pounds per week) and will give you a calorie range to stay between.

Hi Mich,
I joined sparkpeople a little while ago, but I don't go to it regularly. I know I should but I just don't get to it.
Anyway how do you know what your BMR is will I find that on sparkpeople. My 2 sisters and I are trying to loose weight for my nephews wedding in August. None of us want to be known as the fattest aunt at the wedding I would like to loose at least 5 lbs a month, 10 would be alot better!

Dear Michi,
What plans do you have after you reach your goal? Would you say that you are on a diet right now and will eat the same foods as before but more controlled, or have you adopted a new way of life and have totally rejected certain foods altogether that you intend not to eat any longer?
What's the driving force behind this plan you are on? In other words, what got you to the point to finally say, "That's it, enough is enough..."?
