I believe in prayer. I believe in self defense.

DB, now I'm going to post something, and I don't want you to take this in the wrong way. So, please, consider what I will post below, while it might sound sarcastic it is not. I'm wanting to get an answer.
Do you speak in tongues while you are killing the enemy, or after you kill the enemy?
How does the Holy Ghost work through a New Testament saint when Jesus in Matthew 5 told His followers to resist not evil, but to take the backhand across the face, to allow yourself to be sued, to carry a forced burden way further than you were ordered to carry it. Love your enemies, how do we love our enemies by running a bayonet through their midsection?

OK if you don't want to do that (like we could actually do that on an internet forum), DB, could you pray for me, and forgive me?

I'm quick to forgive---but you said you didn't besmirch JDs service.
Asking him how many people he killed sure seemed to be a condescension. From my perch it seemed that you as a pacifist wanted to expose JDs supposed lack of Christianity because he fought in a war and killed human beings. I still think that's what you were doing.
But you say you weren't insulting him so I must be missing something.

DB, the hair thing must be the Sicilian. My father just started to get silver at 66 when he passed away. My grandfather started to gray at the age of 72, my aunts and uncles kept their black hair. This isn't about the black of my hair, but that the black and the hair is falling out on the top.
As for checking myself out in a mirror striking a pose, the wife and the daughters would have way too much fun at a chance to run that into the ground.

Those are instructions to individuals, not nations.
Answer me this: did the United States err in fighting the Nazis? Did God want us to simply pray the Nazis away?
More personally: your wife is getting raped, your children are being assaulted and you are in the room---do you speak in tongues as you utilize those pumped up guns of yours as you break the neck of the rapist, and break the arms of the assailants? Or would you turn your cheek and fall to your knees and pray for them?

I was raised in a military family, Army and Navy, my late father in law was Lt Col Sherman Pratt. My question wasn't a dig, nor was I going in the direction you assume.

Asking him if he has legs like Jay Jay Walker was due to his comment on only working his upper portion of his body. That's a common reply to individuals who only workout the the more noticeable half of the body. So, you didn't miss anything you just misunderstood.

Re: Terror Attacks In Paris
Back to the hypothetical:
Your wife is being raped---your daughters are being assaulted. What is the Christian response? Prayer? Speaking in tongues? Quoting Acts 2:38? Turn the other cheek? Love your enemy?

Aren't nations made up of individuals? So wouldn't a nation which is totally all Christians do what Christ told them to do? Please, understand that I don't believe this is a Christian nation, but a nation that has Christians in it. Big difference.

That's a big question which would deserve a big detailed answer, but since the United States isn't a Christian nation, but a nation which has all forms of religions and ideologies they will do as their government sees fit. Did God want US to pray the Nazi terror away? Why not? If you have the faith as a grain of a mustard seed you can move mountains, correct? Stand still and SEE the salvation of the Lord? Enemies in the OT turning on each other until all are dead? Vengeance is mine saith the Lord? I"ll take prayer.

Oh, hypotheticals...ok...
First I work out, exercise, I'm not a shaolin monk, or Bruce Lee. While in the past I was a fighter, been shot, stabbed, broken bones, I don't really know how effective I would be against a home invasion with more than one. Hey, ever been awakened in the middle of the night with someone next to your bed? I have. Baseball bat right to the midsection, not a whole lot you can do if you know what I mean. But I was younger, and they got what they needed and the the swelling went down, and the ribs healed. Yet, I don't know if someone got to me first with an axe handle across my forehead how effective my regiment of exercise would do to save my family. Two years ago I was jumped while riding my Cannondale coming home from a Bible study, it was about 5 young men who tackled me off the bike and proceeded to kick my head clean off my shoulders. I had a sneaker print on my neck for over a week. I Bible study some times in bad sections and must go through some sketchy areas. While these guys were doing a boot dance on my head I thought on the Lord Jesus Christ, and said I was in His hands, and constantly said Lord forgive them. All of a sudden a car flew right up into us, blaring its horn. They took off. My back pack, and Cannondale were untouched. I was pretty banged up, and spitting blood. But didn't go to the Hospital, church family came over and had a wonderful prayer meeting.

Cool story. I mean that.
But it doesn't answer protecting your wife and daughters.

DB, not a lot you are going to do, but I know that Jesus has gotten me out of the most violent situations when I didn't worship Him. When I was crazy, young, and hung out with some violent people. Jesus didn't owe me anything. But he saved me from near death situations. Ruger Mini 14 pointed at my face, and the weapon didn't fire when the individual squeezed the trigger. What if I'm not home, what then, what if its my time and the home invader pops a cap in my face? A slug in the chest, or something easier, a bullet through the thigh. I don't know about you, but I don't care what anyone says, bullets hit like crazy! and hurt like ultra pain, but that's just me. Prayer, I want Him, and need Him to do this, I trust He will get my family and I through the furnace because He is able. If He doesn't then we will all be with Him.
