It's ok for the winner to have wanted the office, but the losers get slammed.

Likewise, it ok for the incumbent to want to remain in office; that's kosher.
But heaven help the man who desires it.

See here's the deal for me...
Love him, like him, or hate him, Bishop NJW is a compelling force.
Even at 26, he was a man to be respected and admired. He did not demand it...it just came with the presence of the man.
After lo these many years, his example is a bar that many in my experience cannot hold.
But that is just my admittedly biased opinion...
I do NOT discount the FACTS presented by those in the know out West. They have a persepective that you and I do not.
I do discount the opinion of those there or elsewhere who may assume more than they know.
That Bishop would start a school because of competiveness with his BIL is so far removed from what I know of him, I cannot tell you.
Anyway...need to go make some chili before the big MI/MI State game...

BOOM, Dan will never admit to painting himself in a box. He relies on everyone rolling their eyes and giving up when he throws a "snow isn't white, it's green," type of statement then slips out to jump into another discussion and turn that into a puke brown mess. Why this guy still has any credibility is beyond me.
But this thread isn't about Dan.
This is about uninformed bitter folks that begrudge a man's labor and him building something out of nothing, staying true to GOD's call in his life and doing what he thinks God has directed him to do. PastorG all you are doing here is showing you have sour grapes. If you have fact, state fact otherwise you are SPECULATING and judging another man and causing the rest of the mindless here to slap you on the back for really, nothing.
And Thad, wow, you know how to do it...BTW, THAD, what is your pastor, or your brother going to do... are THEY turning in their cards?? HMMM???

I don't think the "winner" really wanted the office....but it is who the ministerial body voted in.
The DS job comes with a LOT of baggage. There might be some who really want the position for whatever reasons...but I would say the large majority would rather it not be them...but humbly take the job because the ministerial body thought it would be best.
I remember a conversation taking place forums ago...when Coonskinner was elected to be Youth President of the Kansas District. Not something that I think he wanted...but one in which the ministerial body of his district felt he would be the best man for the job.

My thinking is no, for certainly that is not the man I know.
Does the fact that they did not seek endorsement by the UPCI for the BC ring of agenda to you?!
Again, my answer is no...not the man I know.

Barb....
To answer your questions....(and this is my PERSONAL opinion)....
RE: Wilson wanting to be DS.....I do not think it "rings" of competiveness and one-upmanship. (now...I am going to talk in general terms) However, I think the first thing a pastor needs to do is he is called to pastor his city and his flock. That is his first priority. I don't think he needs to campaign for a position or seek some "higher office." If the ministerial body votes the person into a position, and they think this is the right person for the job at the time, then go for it. However, I just have a problem with pastors seeking the higher position (brings me back to the Saturday night message at GC 2007).
RE: the BC. If you are part of the organization...why would you not want the endorsement of your organization on what you are doing? You live in Michigan and whereas Great Lakes University is not a Bible College...the UPC recognizes it. I think out of ministerial ethics (and take the family connection into account).....35 miles to build 2 bible schools....I don't know. I did not anticipate Wilson seeking an endorsement or caring if the UPC agreed with him or not on the BC. Again, out here, we have been hearing about him wanting to leave the UPC and form his own organization for awhile. If he did leave...a UPC endorsed BC would have stayed UPC and probably gone out from underneath him.
Again, just my thoughts.

Yes, but as I have stated many times, Bishop was speaking about pulling out centuries ago when he was here.
That almost 30 years later he's still talking about it...oops, guess it's not talk now, but anyway, that he's still singing this tune, I am not surprised. Bishop has always followed that still small voice.
What defies my understanding is why now?! Why not wait and see what happens?! Why assume that Res 4 is the sound of death for the United Pentecostal Church, International, and carnality will now rule.
Why not work through this?!
Makes no sense...

I agree...
But, we don't know all the straw that was on the camel when this straw landed

Monkeyface, I can only take Dan's posts for what they are saying loudly.
Gen 4:7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee [shall be] his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
I doubt he has ever been in the church in Sacramento, and surely understands LITTLE about Western District politics.
Side note, NW lost by two votes. My Pastor and I considered making the trip to go and vote. I cannot say for I was not there, but had we been there, the vote may have been different....... too far for us to drive was our decision. Interesting that the vote was TWO votes away from either side. I do believe the election was to fulfill the last year of term and will come up again this year. Which indeed will be an interesting vote to say the least with So California now fully underway for 2009. (joint events for 2008)
