I agree.

The "custom of the people are in vain." Doesn't say it's an abomination or sin to do so, just that those who do this as a matter and means of idolatrous worship do so in vain.

Psalm 24 identifies those who will ascend the hill of the Lord and stand in His holy place are those who have not lifted up their soul to vanity. This includes idolatrous heathen religious practices. The customs of the heathen are vain - empty, dead, purposeless - and we are commanded not to follow their example.

IE...Christmas trees are useless. Also, don't be afraid of them. They can't do evil or good.
Probably because they're TREES.

Fear in a religious context includes reverence. People who do the tree thing do indeed "reverence" the tree. Proof is right there in the other thread "We ain't putting up Xmas trees" or whatever it's called. The pro-tree crowd demonstrated their rather vociferous reverence of Christmas traditions, including the demonic phallus-tree.
The issue isnt a tree's inherent value. After all, "idols are nothing" but does that mean we can set up golden Buddhas and burn incense to them, spin the prayer wheel, draw the chalk mandala, and chant "Hare Jesus, Jesus Jesus, Hare Hare, Hare Jesus" and say we are delivered to do all these things?
