1 Cor 14:

2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

14 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.
15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.

It seems that according to Scripture one who speaks in tongues does NOT know or understand what they are saying, unless they are given the interpretation (by the Spirit).

Regarding political reality, the "reality" most people experience is a carefully crafted and managed Truman Show.

Paul taught that if everyone speaks in tongues with no interpretation, then the outsider who observes such a thing will conclude the assembly is "mad" ie insane, crazy, not conformed to reality and truth. So, if you, for example (or anyone else) enters a Christian apostolic meeting, and everyone is speaking in tongues with no interpretation, you (or whoever the visitor is) will likely conclude that assembly is in delusion and error, will reject their fundamental doctrine and message, and will be a fulfillment of what Paul warned against, using Isaiah's prophecy as a type of what is going on.

And it seems to me that most Charismatics are satisfied with that, never pray for an interpretation, and don't even believe that interpretations are possible.

Lol how do you know that “ most “ don’t pray for it and don’t even believe in it. . The gifts of the spirit operate in our home church often but what you can’t get through your head is not everyone that speaks in tongues is operating in the gift of tongues. There will be NO interpreter in that case. I get why you don’t understand though. The reason you don’t understand is because you do NOT have the HG and you are reading 1 Corinthians that was intended for people that were part of the church which you are not. Now you can have the opportunity to get in the church but as of now you are NONE of his.

Did you skip over my testimony of what I witnessed in a Charismatic church? Did you not notice the posted confession on this thread that the gift of God's Spirit (i.e., the interpretation of tongues) would disappear if the tongue speaking is recorded on video?
