Brother, it was connected to the lack of fasting, unlike the Pharisees did, and they know it.... 14 Then the disciples of John came to him, saying, n“Why do we and other Pharisees fast,3 but your disciples do not fast?” 15 And Jesus said to them, “Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.

Re: Social drinking?
As I said before...I highly respect those with differing opinions and convictions.I really do love and appreciate each and every one of you and I hope that you know that.I think its good to have open and honest discussion about these sorts of things. There are alot of arguments I could make but I am not in this discussion to convince you of one posititon or the other and I realize that it is a topic that people feel very strongly about.I know some of you may feel without a doubt that I am lost and that is certainly your right to hold that view I guess. For the sake of my own desire to maintain a civil and non argumentative attitude I will withdraw from this discussion because I feel if I proceeded any further I would be possibly be a stumbling block to someones personal convictions.

Re: Social drinking?
I think it's important for everyone reading this thread to understand that our thoughts on this topic (and others) don't always translate into action. In the context of this discussion, I will say that I don't believe a person will go to hell for having a drink of wine, but at the same time, I strongly oppose social drinking for various reasons. It would be a mistake to assume that every person who believes drinking in moderation isn't a sin is also a drinker. That might be what is causing some offense in this conversation, and it needs to be clarified.

I don't see where Jesus became drunk though and I would not try to say he did.
You are also confusing drinking as part of one's personal private preference with visiting a place where people go to get drunk and hook up for sex.

In other words fresh squeezed grapes produce alcohol straight off the vine.? I don't know for fact what Jesus drank or didn't drank, but it is adding to the scripture to say that he drink alcoholic wine. You may speculate, but to say it for matter of fact is adding to what the Bible says. I have listened to uc's being called on adding to scripture to create doctrine, but some are adding to it now to advocate their own belief's also.
Why would they have to take the alcohol out when fresh juice never had it to start.

I'll toast to that but it will be with grape juice or nice cold glass of iced tea.
P.S. don't take make wrong if you drink moderately I am not offended by it I just disagree. I love everyone here no matter what there stance and it is good to be able to debate are beliefs By going back in forth we are forced to think outside of the box and both sides learn.

Re: Social drinking?
Well I will say this...yes I do drink but to be very very honest my major struggle is food.I have a serious food addiction.Im really trying to do better but it doesnt help that I am a good cook as well. This is something that I am realizing the more I fight my obsession. Alcohol...I could never take another drink and it wouldnt be a issue...I wouldnt crave it...its not something I do daily or even weekly or even biweekly. But my addiction to food goes far beyond just eating to survive.I eat when I get stressed or depressed.I went through alot of abuse when I was younger and looking back I see that food was my way of self medicating.Im trying to make long term lifestyle changes now and identify sources of my triggers to overindulge.

You are not alone with this problem. I dare to say it is a problem in the U.S. as much if not more then alcoholism. It is something you don't hear much about in Christian teaching and it is probably because not many feel to have things together enough to teach on it. In our country were are blessed with so much that we have trouble abstaining from things.
Here lately money has been tight at my house and we have been eating mostly out of our garden and other vegetables. I have really ate less because I haven't been enjoying it as much. So many eat for pleasure and I don't say that is wrong, but we certainly must keep it under control. I think that is why the Lord teaches us to fast.
Keep on striving and don't let the enemy condemn you. We'll not be perfect until Jesus returns and gives us that new body.
