Re: A Handmaids Tale

Jesus said he did not come to abolish but fulfill the law

Quote:
Matthew 5:17-20 17"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.
He even added a stricter interpretation of the law

Quote:
21 Ye have heard that it was said of them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:
22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

So I cant argue that the OT is not applicable. And many crimes are justly punished by a death sentence, murder, Rape, Incest, and others.

Re: A Handmaids Tale

The bible says we are to save with fear and compassion:

Quote:
Jude 20But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, 21Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. 22And of some have compassion, making a difference: 23And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh. 24Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, 25To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever.
If one had a homosexual child they were praying and fasting for God to deliver, they would hope for a chance for that child to be saved rather than see them hung from a wall to rot.

Re: A Handmaids Tale

What of the married women who are badly abused who can't leave their husbands because they have no way of making a living because women working is outlawed, who have no voice because they are not allowed to speak in public?

In the Victorian era, women who had no relative to support them resorted to prostitution to make a living. Not saying that was a good idea, just saying women need ways to make an honest living.

Re: A Handmaids Tale

Our society needs to be reformed, and Christians are the ones to reform it no doubt. But do we have to bring back Lex Talonis? When Paul addressed incest in the Corinthian church He didn't recommend death, he told the congregation to expel the offender so that they would be brought to repentance. And afterward told them to bring him back in to the congregation.

One of the speakers in the UTubes I listened to said reconstructionists believe that it will take a 1000 plus years for society to be reformed so I guess we don't have to worry about draconic reprisals being instituted in our life time.

(On a side note, this was one of the reasons they were opposed to dispensationalism, it doesn't give time for them to reform society and bring about a golden age.)

If one had a child who was a murderer, one would certainly be praying for them. But suppose they got caught, tried, and sentenced to death for their murders? What then?

The church doesn't bear the sword of criminal law enforcement, so he couldn't have recommended death even if he wanted to. He recommended the offender be put out of the church, because that is all an assembly can do. Paul was operating in agreement with the Word, and we see in that incident theonomy in action in a church living in the midst of a non-theonomic culture.

"Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil." (Eccles. 8:11)

Society rejects God's Word, and embraces perversion. As a result, perversion increases. The penalties God commands for punishment of sin is not to be compared to the punishment God Himself has ordained for the Judgment Day....

It's weird, to me anyway, how so many are in favor of various penalties for crime... except the ones God Himself decreed. As if God is a worse governor than men.

Regarding the bolded part, is that actually the case? Does the Bible outlaw women working, or forbid them to speak in public?

Does the Bible forbid a woman from making an honest living?

The parents should turn them in

No. Antichrist is a spirit that afflicts whoever it wants, and takes all kinds. There are political and apolitical, right, left, and middle of the road antichrists all over the place.

It is chiefly a religious position that denies Jesus came in the flesh or that He is the Messiah.

Quote:
will homosexuals and adulterers be executed?
No. The Sinless Christ from Nazareth was under the Law of God and came to fulfill it, a Law which required, among other things, the stoning of homosexuals and adulterers.

The Antichrist spirit then, rejects the Law of God and embraces all forms of sin to normalize it and make it acceptable so that offenses to God and the Sinless Christ may abound.

Quote:
will women be striped of all rights and be solely conscripted for reproduction?
No. Under the spirit of Antichrist, women are afforded every right to embrace sinfulness of every kind, up to and including ruling over men.

If the traditional view that the "the Antichrist" is also the "Lawless One", then you have someone wholly intent on the complete dissolution of the Law of God.
