One of the saddest things was sis...when I went back briefly last year....my senior pastors wife(my original pastor) came up to me hugged me and said oh sister soinso...I want so much to make it to heaven....it just killed me that she would doubt it after all her years in the church....

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

The Ole FRINGE_NUTTER has attended churches where the pastor wanted to be consulted about almost everything. As buying a house, a car, vacations, friends, etc. etc. That kind of control was widespread back in the 60s even though the mid 80s. I saw it lose some steam in the late 80s to early 90s. The pastor is to watch for our souls. I believe it is good to seek counsel from the pastor but for the pastor to dictate a set of rules that he does not abide by himself is ridiculous. Nothing wrong with discussing a proposed marriage partner, business dealings, etc. with a pastor, but I've heard of pastors telling people not to buy houses, etc. back in the 70s and 80s because the Lord was supposed to be coming back in the rapture and they wouldn't need the house or car. There needs to be some balance here.

we have a neighboring church that is just like this. they have never been UPC but they are oneness and their pastor is a total Dictator.

He Owns rentals and makes all the single men live in one of his rentals so he can keep an eye out for them make sure they are not fornicating

I had to go through various phases of it. My pastor was pretty easy going and felt that the Holy Ghost was enough to help most folks sort out their social calendars.

However his wife and others at times felt that he was too loose so they'd get after him and he'd react with a bullying attitude- we'd lose several established families and have to start all over again only to repeat the cycle. We chewed up a lot of folks in the community that way. But, hey! It's all a part of keeping a "clean church," right?

The man has issues with trusting people to say the least. A shepherd leads the sheep. Someone used to say that man is fulfilling the six fold ministry - DICTATOR - meaning it must take a DICTATOR for the perfecting of the saints. Sad.
