Jay, again these are fringe churches but they are not quite as rare as you may think (although still rare by any absolute standard). You most likely wouldn't run into any like these in IL or WI but rest assured they do exist in the deep South and at least once upon a time, in the Oregon district. And churches that go this nuts often break away from their particular organization in short order so there may not be any officially licensed with the UPC at any given moment.
I've always said that I would purposely submit to having my internet activity monitored for the sole purpose of give the guy a show he won't soon forget. LOL

I disagree Jay... Our church was mainstream big UPCI... Had to ask for permission to miss service, go on vacation, permission to get married period, let alone where to get married.... and on... and on... and on...
Kids were not allowed to rollerskate for pity's sake, what is with that?

I do believe that is why I gave my parenthetical there. I have heard more than one pastor say that many churches that will not affiliate with any organization end up a bit 'different'. I have heard them say that it is because the pastor does not want to have any government higher than himself to answer to. However, I do know that there are many good independent men (probably many more than those who give them a bad name).

I have not heard of needing permission to miss or enjoy a vacation. However I do know that pastors do appreciate being told that a person is not going to be in attendance. As far as the issue of marriage, I know that very often the pastor (or pastors if it involves saints from two churches) are involved from the very beginning of the process. Further, I have heard heard of pastors not condoning the marriage and not attending the ceremony, but never forbidding marriage.
As for the rollerskating, was it at a rink or just in the neighborhood? That would have an effect somewhat on how I would answer that question.

Re: Old Time Pentecost
Jay, I do not mean any harm to you, but do you ever get around? Especially in the deep south for any length of time?

I have been around. Not as much as some, but I been to a number of churches from Maryland to Colorado to Texas. I am not aware of having been to any in the deep South (still want to see a snake handling service for myself).

In a rink on 'christian night' when the only music played is contemporary christian music, all the kids are church kids from the local churches and there are chaperones aplenty.
Honestly Jay I am glad that this stuff does not exist in your experience and I pray that it NEVER does, ever. I am so thankful that you have never come under abusive authority.
oohhh clicked on the link for a free concert earlier and found a radio station... they are playing a song called 'Ready yourselves or Until the whole world hears.. or something...' makes me want to rollerskate!!
