Ferdando is right. Had he been any other type of celebrity other than the President of the United States he would have been booked, finger printed, and done some jail time with his mug shot posted on The Smoking Gun dot com.
Had he been a Republican facing a Democrat House and Senate he would have been removed from office.

I have no affection for either party, just to make it clear. But the republicans were getting their butts kicked by Clinton and without anything else to go after him on, set out on a McCarthyisitic witch hunt of sex. I can't make excuses for Clinton and lying under oath. But the whole scenario was an inexcusable pursuit of a popular president that was killing the conservatives.
I was still a registered republican at the time, one who trumpeted the conservative cause, and I was embarrassed by the whole thing.

And for the record, I can't STAND Biden. On a bus during the campaign, he made a statement about FDR going on national television and explaining a crisis.....and TV hadn't been distributed to the general public yet. What an idiot. There's NO doubt there was a double standard of how the media handled his goof and Palin's goof.

Probably because of how he was unable to do anything about the economic fiasco, making it sound as though he was going to sweep into Washington in a huge presidential way and get things straightened out. It didn't happen and he looked foolish. The American public didn't feel they could count on him at that point. Too much at stake. That tanked his numbers very quickly.
Nothing was going to be fixed with Obama winning the election, but the public, of course, could not have known that. Of course, those of us who were actually studying did know how it would turn out.

I suppose we'll never know. But if it was alcohol-fueled and innocent, it's not a heck of a lot better than the other option.

She did so well on that first debate with him. I was getting excited and then it was like she went brain dead. LOL! No, I don't care for Biden either.

No! Not "well probably so..." Don't back down. By quoting the SNL skit "they" completely skew the reality of what she said. Russia IS our neighbor. There is a lot of Russian cultural legacy still remaining in Alaska. Alaska USED TO BE RUSSIAN!
Palin's statement was right on. It was not necessarily the "deep" analysis that Katie was looking for, but Palin doesn't have much foreign policy experience, that just doesn't really go with being a state governor ... - except she did serve as the chief administrator of a former RUSSIAN province. That's more foreign policy work than Clinton had done in Arkansas as governor.

When she first came on the scene, I was excited. Then I found out she had been a mayor 3 years before, of a town of 9,000, thought of OUR mayor in our town of 100,000, and said, "Uh oh."
Then the interview. Double uh oh.

Come on, Pel, she used the fact that Russia is within view of Alaska to back up her foreign policy expertise. It was SHOCKING when she said it. I just watched a clip of it on Youtube and wanted to crawl under the couch. It's incredibly embarrassing. Even SHE admits that!

I wasn't backing down. She handled the interview badly and sounded very weak and inexperienced. All I was saying to NOW is that his quote was wrong. Where I do agree with him is, she sounded very weak and sort of dumb.
Quote:
"GIBSON: What insight into Russian actions, particularly in the last couple of weeks, does the proximity of the state give you?
PALIN: They're our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska.
GIBSON: What insight does that give you into what they're doing in Georgia?
PALIN: Well, I'm giving you that perspective of how small our world is and how important it is that we work with our allies to keep good relation with all of these countries, especially Russia. We will not repeat a Cold War. We must have good relationship with our allies, pressuring, also, helping us to remind Russia that it's in their benefit, also, a mutually beneficial relationship for us all to be getting along. "

Well, I don't really see the difference. I have friends that sit on City Council in smaller towns and they handle a whole lot of issues. Lots of legal wrangling. Sarah delegated just like Rick Perry (Austin, TX) does. Neither Rick nor Sarah take/took care of the whole enchilada.
