But pointing out people's problems aren't exaclty the way to motivate people to do good. Fat people know they are fat. They probably hate it worse than anyone else.
Exactly.
Preach that we should take care of our temple all you want, but don't assume that fat=unhealthy, skinny=healthy. So not true.
Skinny people can eat like heifers, and the statements about it are, "Oh goodness, that girl can sure put the food away, can't she? How does she stay so thin? Wish I could eat like that and look like she does!"
Sadly, that thin person has an overactive thyroid and can (and does) eat 10,000 calories a day. Those judging her don't see that.
Fat people eat 2000 calories a day, but have a piece of cheesecake after a Mother's Day dinner and the comments are, "I think she could have done without that slice of cheesecake. If I looked like that, I would only eat tuna fish!"
Sadly, that fat person isn't fat because of overeating, but because of an underactive thyroid, but those judging her don't see that.
I have no idea how many calories I eat a day. I have never once tried to figure it out. You've met me. I have a little middle aged spread but have been thin my entire life. My paternal grandma and my dad are both very thin. I eat pretty much whatever I want. I try to limit sugar, but it's never been an issue for me. Depression. Now there's another story.

This is a pic of my daughter and son and a friend of mine with me at my college graduation last May. This pic is misleading as to her size (which is good for her!) because my son weighs about 20 pounds less than she does, and he's 9 inches taller.

There are several friends I have who remember my fat days and what I ate. They claim I didn't eat near as much as they did, but I got fatter, even while I was sick and hardly eating anything.
I remember one summer while working at a job where the inside of the warehouse could get up to 120 degrees. I would be so sick that all I'd drink was Gatorade and eat a little something when I got home. I didn't eat at work, so I basically ate on the weekends.
I gained 30 pounds that summer. Go figure.

So, is eating bacon and eggs and clogging your arteries and having a heart attack more sinful than drinking Gatorade and gaining weight? I think we have to be careful how we measure what is godly or holy. Just because there is a pew full of skinny people doesn't mean we have moderation figured out.

Thank you!!!

I'm sorry if I haven't been clear or compassionate on this thread. I do love people, regardless of thier condition physically or spiritually. I only want to help folks who's health is at risk, and the Church, who's testimony may be in harms way.
Our young people are deeply affected by the way we practice what we preach. Telling the lost they need to lay aside evils that damage the body and mind, while not saying a word about the detriments of excessive weight and poor diet, is hypocritical and can become a "nail" in the coffin of discouragement.
I have crossed lines before with my passion. I get like Peter, waving my sword all over the place. Every now and then I review my ways and see an apology is in order. I find my desire ever growing to be with the Lord, as the words of Paul ring loud and clear; I do that which I hate. I'll be glad to lay down this life.
I'm trying my best to leave our youth with an example to follow. I hope I'm doing OK. Kids are full of questions, and the right answer is important.

Exactly how do you do this, order blood workups or other diagnostic procedures on everyone?

I have yet to hear anyone complain (outside of people who are already Christians who post on this forum) that a fat preacher had the nerve to teach them about salvation and to lay aside their sins while they eat cheeseburgers and at the buffet 3 times a week.

I have yet for any kid, teen, or adult say anything about fat people in the church and that being the reason why they are turned off to God. You make it sound like only skinny kids come to church.
Attitudes in the church that aren't conducive to Christian conduct, yes, but not being fat.
Thin people aren't the only sinners. Fat people are sinners too. They don't become fat after being saved like you seem to think.
