Re: Do You Believe In Women Preachers?

If Paul was saying a woman could not preach he was also saying she could not talk...

He was quoting a letter he received and then answered that letter...he was not giving a new commandment or quoting from the law of the Bible.

Re: Do You Believe In Women Preachers?

Mark 16 when it says they shall speak...talk in new tongues uses tthe same word..so if Paul meant a woman could not speak in church then Jesus w=meant a woman could not talk in tongues...

Re: Do You Believe In Women Preachers?

the verb "to speak" is the Greek verb "laleo" {lal-eh'-o} which has the general meaning "to emit sounds" and the specific meaning "to speak." This verb occurs very frequently in the Greek text of the Gospels not only in Cor.

1 Corinthians 12:3 Therefore I tell you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit always testifies of Jesus and one test that spiritual gifts MUST meet is that they glorify Jesus. Any "gift" that curses Jesus, that does not afford Him His honor as our Lord and Savior, and that does not acknowledge His Lordship is NOT from the Holy Spirit.

"Speaking" by the Spirit here in Greek is laleo {lal-eh'-o} meaning to utter a voice or emit a sound, to speak, to use the tongue or the faculty of speech, to utter articulate sounds, to talk, to utter, tell, to use words in order to declare one's mind and disclose one's thoughts, to speak.

I Corinthians 14:2 For anyone who speaks [laleo] in a tongue does not speak [laleo] to men but to God. Indeed, no one understands him; he utters [laleo] mysteries with his spirit [by the Spirit].

I Corinthians 12:8-10 To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.

I hear every conceivable explanation from advocates of women preachers except the one that I would take heed to,the Word.Feminism has infiltrated the church as well as our society .Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary

2:8-15 Under the gospel, prayer is not to be confined to any one particular house of prayer, but men must pray every where. We must pray in our closets, pray in our families, pray at our meals, pray when we are on journeys, and pray in the solemn assemblies, whether more public or private. We must pray in charity; without wrath, or malice, or anger at any person. We must pray in faith, without doubting, and without disputing. Women who profess the Christian religion, must be modest in apparel, not affecting gaudiness, gaiety, or costliness. Good works are the best ornament; these are, in the sight of God, of great price. Modesty and neatness are more to be consulted in garments than elegance and fashion. And it would be well if the professors of serious godliness were wholly free from vanity in dress. They should spend more time and money in relieving the sick and distressed, than in decorating themselves and their children. To do this in a manner unsuitable to their rank in life, and their profession of godliness, is sinful. These are not trifles, but Divine commands. The best ornaments for professors of godliness, are good works. According to St. Paul, women are not allowed to be public teachers in the church; for teaching is an office of authority. But good women may and ought to teach their children at home the principles of true religion. Also, women must not think themselves excused from learning what is necessary to salvation, though they must not usurp authority. As woman was last in the creation, which is one reason for her subjection, so she was first in the transgression. But there is a word of comfort; that those who continue in sobriety, shall be saved in child-bearing, or with child-bearing, by the Messiah, who was born of a woman. And the especial sorrow to which the female sex is subject, should cause men to exercise their authority with much gentleness, tenderness, and affection.

Re: Do You Believe In Women Preachers?

so the real meaning is to utter a voice...the word preaching is never used ...so if the woman is never to utter a voice then she must be in silence....complete silence....

A woman's place is whereever God needs her at any given moment of time...

On the foreign field especially in years gone by women missionaries out numbered the men...That is a proven fact. However those that REALLY know me know I am not pushing for women to push men aside and I sure detest speaking in front of a crowd but God does use women and they most certainly can give or share a word from the Lord.

Thank God for women in both Testaments under the severe Talmudic thinkings that rose above it all and gave the word of God at some of the most terrible times.

By saying that does not mean there were not men of God...NO woman of God would ever deminish a man of God...Gifts make room for themselves...Wise men will be alble to know when God is speaking through a woman...
