If it happened in the first century it happened to the people still alive who directly were involve din the cross. It's like 2 Thess 1. Paul talks about the tribulation the people to whom he wrote went through and said their persecutors would be judged -- the actual people who caused their persecution, not their ancestors. And it touched upon racism. If Israel is judged for their ancestors' actions in the first century, then Ezekiel 18 is violated, for God said He'd not judged the children for the fathers' sins.
There is marked difference in judging the people actually alive when Jesus was crucified.
