My in-laws left the UPC because of some things that were going on in a church that they just couldn't overlook. At the time, they had 2 teenagers still at home. My inlaws didn't go out and start living 'in the world', but they did attend an independant church with no other teenagers. One of the things that killed me, was seeing what was done to the kids (by the 'saints').
The 'saints' kids were told by the pastor to have NOTHING to do with them, and so they literally lost every friend they had ever grown up with. Even adults would make a point of walking the other way in the grocery store.
It was enough to make your heart ache. Neither one of them are really living for God today.

For me this forum is meeting some very real needs in my life. I think I have mentioned this before, but for the last 10 years or so, I have pretty much been in shell, I haven't really engaged socially with anyone outside of my family and few very close, trusted friends. So this forum is has been a concerted effort for me to push outside of my boundaries and start re-socializing myself.
Also, I don't exactly fit the mold of traditional Pentecostalism, I have been pushed outside of those boundaries by an unusual life. So I don't really fit in with a lot of people that I know socially in "real" life. It is a relief for me to come here and feel like I can question, discuss and even argue about things that I am not free to in "real" life.
The last reason that I come here is one that I think is seriously underrated, is the humor. Some times I just can't believe the brilliance of it, I would seriously pay to read some of the things that Pelathais writes! He needs to do a column or something!
A shout out to some of the people that have made my being here sooo worth the while: Jeannie, AG, Karen, MarthaO & Cindy-love you girls! I hope to get to meet all of you in real life! Kenneth-you are my partner in crime, thanks for being a true friend! Sis. Nancy, thank you so much for loving and caring about me, it means more than you know! A_PoMo, well, there is only one you! St.Mark, it has been fun getting reacquainted after all these years! Baron & Pro31:28, it has been so much fun connecting and reconnecting, I can't wait till Oct.! I know that I am missing people, but I really do love you all!!
Renda-Thanks for all you do around here, I know it is a lot of work!!

My best friend left a UPC church and was treated the same way, it was unbelievable to me. I wasn't raised that way, and I cannot even imagine any way that it could be justifiable, unless the person was just an absolute devil, which, how often is that really the case??

The thing that hurt me was that the kids had NOTHING to with the choice, but my in-laws couldn't sit back and watch something they didn't feel comfortable with, take place. So the church members (maybe without relaizing it, but I doubt it) made the kids pay the highest price.

Well I laugh a lot but there's usually not anyone around to hear it. And when there is they just ignore it, they all know I'm crazy.
