I don't think it looks good for the church for him to be homeless either. Some would see and then say, "What good is a church that lets its members become homeless without helping them." The misses doesn't think it is a good idea for him to stay with us and I am really unsure as to what I should do-- if I should do any thing at all. I am not his Pastor, but I have ministered to this young man numerous times. What would you do?

Re: Young Man At Church About To Be Homeless...
I've had hard times before...crazy convoluted circumstances that limited me in what I could do at the time and feeling like I was facing overwhelming odds...blessedly I have a God that hears and supplies.
Bro, just pray for the guy, maybe ask him for a resume or his job experience...maybe devote some time to help look through job sites to find something that's hiring.
You wanna take a "hands off" approach...that's on you...but if I was that young man and my "church family" showed no interest or any action of concern when I was going through a situation like that, I'd be finding somewhere else to attend. Life is hard enough without thinking that you're God called and annointed to provide,"Tough Love".
Remember...whatever you save them with you save them to.
It's a shame that we can be supposedly filled with His Spirit.... Jehovah Jireh....My Provider...but He's not only YOUR provider but He's that young man's provider as well and God may be dealing with you about what you can do to help.
Are we to treat unsaved "strangers" better than "family" that's a bit dishonest wouldn't you think?
I mean even gangs look out for other members bro....

most of our efforts go into reaching the lost, but when needs arise we expect people to depend on themselves and the govt.
how would the early church have handled the situation?

Re: Young Man At Church About To Be Homeless...
Ok, loathe as I am to do so, let's apply the "slippery slope" reasoning.
If it's good enough to use on other aspects of Christian living that are unmentioned or barely alluded to in scripture, it's good enough to use for things that are pretty plainly listed.
I'd much rather give more than God intended for me to give than withhold and not give enough.
There's a LOT of warnings about not giving enough than giving too much.

I am to lazy, jk, don't have time to read thru 11 pages of this thread but it sounds like a few years in the military might be a good thing for this young man. That is if he has the credentials to get in.

I will follow spiritual leadership and my wife's wishes with this. He has the chance to work but he wants other jobs instead.

No, it is pretty much impossible to argue with that logic. Because he posted he would do the what he believed what was best. Which is pretty much what everyone else would do. Jfrog just didn't give us any details for us to say ye or nay. Therefore you honestly couldn't give it a shot.
