CNEASTTX and TRFRANCE - of course Mark loves stirring the pot, but apparently everyone loves it because he gets more attention on this forum than anyone else. AND, he gets it fast! Do you realize how fast that fighting thread has grown? Amazing! No one like Mark! Gotta love him!

Any thoughts? Racism on her part? A veiled threat?
Racism maybe, or bitterness, resentment, or just plain ignorance...
It could be a lot of things. I dont see it as a veiled threat. But there's stuff rooted in our country's history that creates those types of sentiments. Not to say the sentiments are right, but as long as the playing field is not 100% level for everyone, there will always be people who feel the way she does.

I agree. I did get that from the 24 year old black girl. We had an excellent conversation and ended with - We are Americans together! I told her that if she felt the years of oppression lift off of her because of this election, then I could be happy for that alone!

Okay, here's my two cents.
I am a realist, so I recignize that race does often play a role in things sometimes overtly and sometimes subconsciously...but it is not always out of malice or negative "racism". Do stories involving white people tend to get greater and longer coverage in the mainstream media? Absolutely. Is it always maliciousness and "racism"? Absolutely not.
The Natalie Holloway story was a top story for almost a year. They may as well call the Nacy Grace show the "Casey Anthony Show". Jennifer Hudson will get coverage, but we have probably heard the last of it being sensationalized unless there is some breaking news. It will not captivate the general public for sustained months.
Now on the flip side, BET News was not leading with the Natalie Holloway story every day for a year, and there is not this great fascination with the Casey Anthony story.
Stories involving Hispanics are going to get greater play on Telemundo and Univision.
It's just real life. People tend to relate and invest themselves in stories that affect people most like them. It is not racist in my opinion, it is just the nature of our world. I know that this does apply to everybody as a hard fast rule, but in general, I think networks recognize it. At the end of the day, you're going to go with stories that you think the majority of your audience are keenly interested in.
Now if you are interested in expanding your audience and appeal, you expand the coverage to reflect that, and it will happen. The continued emergence of the black community as a valuable audience has created some changes in the stories and even in the newscasters giving the stories.
I think that this diversity is what has made Oprah so successful for example. If she only did stories about black people, her appeal would not be so broad and she would only be limiting herself.

Not that it's all that relevant, but I can't stomach Nancy Grace.

See now you have pointed out something that just makes my head spin. I have felt for a very long time that media in America are about as racist as you can get.
Jon Benet Ramsey wouldnt have made the first headline if she was an innercity black girl.
Casy Anthony wouldnt get a second look, if this was a hispanic child.
You are being much more nice than me about it. If it is real life, then real life needs to be changed.
