I mean I don't doubt there are some Stryper songs, just as there were some Petra songs that can be done in church. Some stuff is more useful for just entertainment and listening pleasure but others more towards corporate worship
Really Prax...it is all going to depend on an individual....My mother didn't want me listening to Carmen because he sounded to "worldly". Carmen is "soothing" music now compared to much of what I listen to. Some music is for entertaining and some for church...Some people would walk into a country church and hear southern or bluegrass and it would remind them of a bar. It just all depends on each person.. I say, to each his own..................If it gives God glory and praise, sing on!!!!!!!!

I am sure in Heaven when it talks about is singing around the throne-it is going to be "Southern Gospel!"

This video is of my favourite group-Gold City Quartet. I saw them when they came to our city at a Church in our neighborhood about ten years ago.
Gold City is based in Dahlonega, Georgia.

Here is a Video of them at Bill Gaithers Homecoming Series.

At the young age of eleven, Terry experienced a tragedy. His mom passed away. Over the next seven years Terry grew bitter that his world had fallen apart. During this troubled time, Terry fell in love and married a girl from his church. God later blessed their home with a son and daughter. This brought some comfort to his life. However, he knew something was missing...

Then one night, while visiting his dad’s church, Terry was filled with the Holy Ghost. He finally found the Friend he had heard his mom speak of so many times.

In 1992 Terry took a leap of faith. He went to Big Stone Gap, VA, to cut a project with the Singing Cooks. With just a small sound system and his sound tracks placed in the trunk of his car, he and his family set out to be a witness through songs.

Fourteen years later God is still opening new doors across the United States. Terry hopes for many more years to continue to have the opportunity to tell about his Friend, Jesus Christ.

I never listen to carman when I was younger. He was popular but I didn't like his junk. When I was a teenager David and the giants were popular. I went one time to a church where they were, after two songs i got up and left. I'll take the old Happy Goodman's any day.

Nah...keep that junk away from me...why is it everything that someone does not like have to be described as junk? ok, so it's not your style of music. Does everything have to be described as junk? What's wrong with people..

God forbid a preacher asks a saint if they liked the message and instead of saying "Well it was ok, but not my style" instead say "it was junk"?

BTW some of Carman's songs were very "Pentecostal" in style.

Some Carman Lyrics
Ask Of Me
I always hear My children when they bow to pray
I never fail to entertain all that they say
I mourn with every sorrow
I grieve with every pain
Yet all the while I'm strengthening and blessing them again

I want so much to be their Source from which they feed
For I and only I can give them what they need
That's why within the pages of My Written Word
Time and time again this simple line is often heard

Ask of Me, don't turn to any other
Can't you see? You'll never be a bother
Just believe that I can be your Answer, My beloved child
Ask of Me, don't search in other places
Can't you see? That I'll be your Oasis
In that dry and thirsty world you live in
I'll be your cup of water if only you give in
And ask of Me

Eyes have not seen, nor ears have heard
All of the things that I preferred
For those that love Me
But only if you ask of Me

Ask of Me, don't turn to any other
Can't you see? You'll never be a bother
Just believe that I can be your Answer, My beloved child
Ask of Me, don't search in other places
Can't you see? That I'll be your Oasis
In that dry and thirsty world you live in
I'll be your cup of water if only you give in
And ask of Me

Hunger For Holiness

There's a silent war that's raging deep within me
My lower nature fights to dominate
My spirit man is poised and locked in battle
With the carnal side of me I've grown to hate.

The trumpet of my prayers plays toward Heaven
A voice of desperation in my cry
Lord, strengthen me that I might not yield myself to sin
But keep Your righteous banner lifted high.

CHORUS
Lord, I hunger for holiness
And I thirst for the righteousness that's Yours
That my mind would be cleansed
And my spirit renewed
And this temple that You dwell in would be pure.

The tempter stalks about me as a lion
Searching for the slightest scent of blood
For when the skin of my resistance is broken
He moves in swiftly to deepen the cut.

Oh, Lord of all Creation, hear Your servant
You understand the weaknesses of man.
I'm counting myself crucified with Jesus
Alive to Christ and dead indeed to sin.
