Re: Rangel "Censured"

sounds like a crime to me.

So let me get this straight. All Snipes had to do was admit he owed taxes, work out a schedule to pay it back and he would avoid jail time?
Sounds like he chose jail time

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Re: Rangel "Censured"

War hero. He won a bronze star in Korea, too bad he won't be remembered for saving 40 men.

Okie dokie.

Either way, Snipes' and Rangel's situations are not the same.

This is why Snipes got jail time and Rangel did not.

In the broadest sense, Snipes chose jail because he chose to fight a losing battle and is going to jail over a principle that he holds dear.

However, what he actually chose to do was to simply not pay taxes.

I saw Snipes on Larry King Live the other night. I can't remember every thing said, but it seems the media has got his situation wrong.
It was the agency/lawyers he hired to take care of his taxes that messed up, he caught on, informed the authorties and this firm he hired made sure he went down with him...words to that effect.
Snipes also paid all his taxes. He said he never intended to do otherwise.

If he said this, then he is doing some serious back peddling or plain telling a lie.

In 1999, he chose to align himself with an accounting firm known for their protest on taxation.

Snipes consistently filed his taxes, until 1999.

Snipes never in court state that he intended to pay his taxes-- he went to court because he refused to pay taxes.

His stance was consistent with the accounting firm he chose to handle his financial interests. That accounting firm is associated with an anti-taxation movement in America.

Snipes in the past seemed to know what was going on.

I am glad I didn't see him on Larry King. His words would have contradicted his prior wards and actions.

There is no pity here for Snipes or Rangel.

Sheesh....that's what I get for believing an actor!
He and his lawyer and even a Judge Brown who was on there, sure made it sound convincing.
Apparently he was convicted of three charges that were mis-demeanors and got 36 months, the max.

There is a reason he received the maximum penalty possible.

He has to turn himself in today.
What a hard lesson to learn.
