The question went unanswered. The answer was that the Pilgrams landed on our soil to escape the
persecution of the
Church of England.
Of note and returning to modern times was a speech in 1933, one of many as the Nazi party was rising in post-WW I Germany:
"The National Government regards the two Christian confessions as factors essential to the soul of the German people. ... We hold the spiritual forces of Christianity to be indispensable elements in the moral uplift of the German people."
Hitler's writings state:
"There were very few Jews in Linz. In the course of centuries the Jews who lived there had become Europeanized in external appearance and were so much like other human beings that I even looked upon them as Germans. The reason why I did not then perceive the absurdity of such an illusion was that the only external mark which I recognized as distinguishing them from us was the practice of their strange religion."
Your comments and earlier comments on Muslims are very much like the above comments on Jews. "They look like us so we will single them out and distinguish them because of their strange religion". Fact of the matter is from the times of the Romans through the Middle Ages to the 20th Century the "Christian Church" has
always defined, persecuted, murdered, and tortured physical enemies. I find no record of Christian killing in the New Testament either. But snce 312 AD (long, long before Islam) under Constantine the killing started in the name of christianity and has continued to modern times. Islam is just the latest "enemy" in centuries of "christian purification". It seems that you cannot exist without someone somewhere who is different to persecute.
Sporadic killing continues today. Dont like Abortion? Kill the doctor. The KKK and extreme right-wing groups still and today reference the "Aryan Christ" view of the Nazi party. And it just goes on and on.
I am also uncomfortable with a religion that is known for so much killing and bloodshed.
