Music

I hear people say be careful of what christian music you listen to, not worldly music. Because even a christian song can be just as bad as a worldly song depending on the music and the artist... Feed backs anyone?

Re: Music

I tend to judge music by the content, and generally think it can stand alone from the artist. However, if I know an artist has done something really offensive, like, say, molested a child, it will ruin their music for me.

A song is as good or bad as its lyrics and the emotion it evokes. Plain and simple.

I do have a friend who told me that listening to heavy metal music made him behave differently, e.g., feel & act angry and aggressive. If a style of music affects you negatively, then you should avoid it.

Re: Music

Good point
But lets say the lyrics was good. But the style of the music wasn't. And lets say the artist was a hip hop artist writing a christian song. Still listen to it?

It depends. If the artist is known to write secular lyrics that are degrading to women and overtly offensive, I might not want to support his/her efforts to access the Christian market. Kwim?

I'm not into labeling styles of music as good or bad, just based on the beat. However, I do recognize that:

1. Some styles are associated with a culture that has negative connotations

2. Some styles evoke negative emotions in the listener

Ultimately, you have to decide where your own line is. My reason for listening to music is to be encouraged or feel something positive or have some calming noise or maybe to focus on praising God. If something makes me feel bad or angry or anxious, or have other negative feelings, I don't have time for it.

Music has a way of reaching the heart when preaching can't. For me if the artist is Christian would not condem his/her music. On the other hand if their life did not reflect the principles I beleive in I would not listen to their music as a spiritual strength. But then I listen to all kinds of music, within reason of course. If the message does not reflect Christian values I most likely would not be listening to it. I defenitly don't buy anything that does not lift God.

Just my mussings

I think there is music with "christian" content but worldly as all get out.
