But even before he got to that Point. He was already Justified, because he believed in Jesus, and He showed His belief by being baptized. a few days later.

same with us God openeds our eyes as sinners, we come into a understanding of Jesus and we Belive/ justified and because of those beliefs, we change direction. (we have our own road of damascus) were God guides us by the hand. and with the faith we already have recieved we begin to act upon that faith.

same as the thief on the Cross, That was His road, his eyes was opened and with what faith was Given. He believed changed His ways,, condemend his sinful deeds and ask for God to remember Him.
Amen!

Saw this posted in another thread and thought it was appropriate here too. There's seems to be a reason that there's joy!

Luke 15:10 (New King James Version)
10 Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

Sadly, there appears to be little or no "joy in heaven" over the exclusivistic tirades that these political beasts feel compelled to throw out there.

The last time I actually sat and listened to WH "preach" was when he felt compelled to deride the "Long Nosed Jews" (his words, exactly) at a men's retreat. WH even traced his finger down the length and past the tip of his own nose to emphasize his "point."

One minister in attendance had infamously made some rather anti-semitic remarks in the media - remarks that even spurred a rebuke right on the home page at UPCI.org. Yet WH felt that the need to "empathize" with this outcast was so great that he soiled his own reputation and ministry. Shame on Wayne Huntley. He'll say about anything to fit in. It makes me wonder what he sounds like when he's talking with "sinners."

Oh yeah, there was another occasion when he about shut down a camp meeting on the first night because he couldn't stop talking about how "good looking" the District Superintendent's wife was. She is a beautiful person, but c'mon! Take a cold shower before you get in the pulpit, dude.

There is a problem, not just in the UPC, where preachers get pulpit drunk and feel they can say just about anything and get away with it.

We had an evangelist here not too long ago that railed on our sound guy because he wanted more monitor...said "do you speak english"? like my young hispanic brother was an illegal immigrant. I was ready to tell him something when a brother assured me the pastor let him know that was wrong. This same preacher would go into a few renditions of worldly songs for some reason like Peter Frampton's "Do you feel like I do"

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

I'm sure we've all heard and seen our share of just plain junk from the pulpit.

I have seen too much. So much infact that I would be happy to not be in a typical pentecostal service again for a while. I am not talking about where the spirit is moving, but I am talking about where there are pulpit-drunk-preachers that are all over the platform like ants on a tootsie roll.

Luke 15:10 (New King James Version)
10 Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”
Jesus begins his parable of the "lost and found" in Luke 15. He ends and reinforces the story with the "prodigal son" who the "elder" son did not want to receive. The lesson - "whosoever will". Regardless of who the Pharisees and the Scribes wanted to accept, Jesus is saying it is "whosoever will". That is the point of the chapter.

Repentance is a choice to "reconsider and to think differently". Of course the angels would rejoice over such a show of faith. They rejoice because a heart is turned toward belief.

"Jesus said, "In the same way God's angels are happy when even one person turns to him" (Luke 15:10 -CEV).

If you do not repent, you will perish. (Luke 13:3;5)

"Repent AND believe the Gospel." (Mark 1:15)

"But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance" (Matthew 9:13).

The angels rejoice that mercy has been extended.

You are are forgetting that John the Baptist preached the "baptism of repentance". (Mark 1:4)

"And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem". (Luke 24:47)

Acts 2:38 would reiterate John's teaching - "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins".

Jesus Christ submitted to baptism to "fulfill all righteousness". (Matthew 3:15)

The Gospel is the death (repentance), burial (baptism) and resurrection (Spirit infilling).

When you want to use Luke 15 as proof that a person is saved at repentance, you are in effect, standing on "death" alone. You are not including the burial (baptism) and the resurrection (Spirit infilling). Repentance is not the entire message of the Gospel.

You also still have to contend with "even baptism doth also now save us" (I Peter 3:21) and with Romans 8:9 "Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his". The CEV says is more plainly, "People who don't have the Spirit of Christ in them don't belong to him" (Romans 8:9).

The whole Gospel is the death, burial and the resurrection. Let's not stand on death (repentance) alone.

What you fail to realize is that repentance is the work of the Holy Spirit. You can't say that Jesus is Lord without the Holy Spirit. Acting as if the Holy Spirit does not come until one speaks in tongues places the UPC outside of orthodox Christian teaching. Wayne Huntley's comment is stunning to anybody who believes the Reformation teaching that salvation is by grace through faith alone.

1 Corinthians 12:3 (New International Version)
3Therefore I tell you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.
