One Service On Sunday

Whew... it's amazing how vehemently some people oppose one service on Sunday.

Even in the early NT days when the people met daily from house to house there is no evidence of a habit of meeting twice on any day of the week.

It always amazes me what people will do to defend tradition.

Re: One Service On Sunday

I attend a church with one Sunday service, and I love it.

I work 6 days a week (every day but Sunday), and to come home and relax and do errands without having to clean up for evening service is a huge relief.

I think sometimes pastors wear out the saints because they don't have a "real" job. Church is their job, so to do it twice on Sunday, once on Wednesday doesn't take the toll on them, it does on average saints who do work.

And by "real" job, I mean secular work. I'm not in any way demeaning the ministry. Though my position on tithes is well known, I have no problem with a pastor who lives off the gospel, so long as their week is used in dedication to the gospel. Now when they life turns into a big vacation, minus two or three services a week, I've got a problem with that.

Re: One Service On Sunday

Sunday School, Sunday morning services, Sunday evening services, and midweek services are traditions that Apostolics have received from denominational church practice.

We have only one service on Sunday, service time is 2:PM. We love it. Not being rushed in the morning;we all show up feeling better, ready to feast on the word.

I do to... for the moment at least. LOL.

The majority or for the one service on Sunday. Those who are so vocally against it are the older ones.

I don't know if it is all about the tradition of it or if them being retired leaves Sunday as a big empty spot with nothing to do.

Re: One Service On Sunday

Youre all gonna split hell wide open for only having one service on Sunday!

I went to bed thinkin the chances of where i attend moving to 1 service on Sunday is less that a million to 1. Tho, as I mentioned on a similiar thread, I personally wish we would just have one, for multiple reasons.

I woke up this morning thinking abou it tho, and the once a year church business meeting could be the place to open it for consideration. If I (tactfully)make a motion to vote on it(done so by the raising of a hand), or atleast consider it, some I figure will likely not vote for the 1 Sunday service out of fear that the pastor will see their hand and think they are becoming a luke warm fence riding compromiser. So instead...I'm thinkin a motion to have a written vote handed in and counted is the way to go. I dont thint there will be enough votes to make the change, but its possible. I also dont know if the pastor will allow it to be voted on, but I think he will knowing that the majority of folks, especailly older ones, will not vote for it as it will be considered as a step of "moving away from God".

Yeah... it's crazy.

You'd think you were asking for a once per month adultery night or something. But... by asking for a vote the thought gets out there and it starts people thinking. That's the first step in an eventual victory.

And... the written votes. Good idea.
