Rules provide no help in avoiding evil desires
Colossians 2:21-23 You have died with Christ, and he has set you free from the spiritual powers of this world. So why do you keep on following the rules of the world, such as, “Don’t handle! Don’t taste! Don’t touch!”? Such rules are mere human teachings about things that deteriorate as we use them. These rules may seem wise because they require strong devotion, pious self-denial, and severe bodily discipline. But they provide no help in conquering a person’s evil desires.
Why is it we have elevated rules to protect people and yet the Word says they are useless in doing that very thing.

What about the rules of God, Don't steal, Don't murder, Don't lie.

Read on my friend. It tells you what to focus on.
Col 3:5
Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6 On account of these the wrath of God is coming.

Some people will find any reason at all to do away with the laws of God.

You really have a hard time taking the Word of God for what it says don't you?
Well what about...
Who cares about "what about" you don't like what the Scripture has to say so you start looking for ways to counter balance the anti-religious nature of the NT.

It's hard for Mizpeh to find middle ground ... going from atheism to Water and Spirit doctrine, Baron ...
It would take a lot for her to realize she might not have it all figured out.

And some people will find any reason to establish the religious rules of man...even when it is contrary to Scripture.

Dan, I am shocked at what I have been reading in Scripture. There is a God who can't stand these religious rules that keep man away from Him.
Many of us today wouldn't even drop our stones and walk away from the woman caught in adultery we would feel justified in flinging those rocks, after all it is the law of God.

Re: Rules provide no help in avoiding evil desires
I read that scripture the other day, and it gave me great comfort. Underlined it with a highlighter, and then left it open for my wife to read. Went back a few days later, read it again.
Helped me realize that much of what I was taught, isn't Biblically supported... but worse, God really doesn't like it either! So the praying, and asking God to lead me down HIS PATH.... well, its starting to make a lot more sense now. Even though at the time I could not understand or fathom why I was being pulled a certain direction.
Blessings.
