Re: Mama's Prayers
This is a song by Merle Haggard titled Momma’s Prayers.
I used the words to this song as a text for a sermon at an Aglow International meeting a few years ago.
Verse 1
Back when I was doing time, there’s a night I can’t forget
a mad man with a knife in hand tried to kill me while I slept.
Some how the knife missed its mark and I pinned the raging man.
Some how my Momma’s prayers had worked again.
Verse 2
One night while we were driving across the mighty Texas plain
a car pulled out with its headlights out, head on into our lane.
The steering wheel jerked, we missed the car and I felt a mighty hand.
Somehow my Momma’s prayers had worked again.
Chorus
Momma’s prayers were always with me through the battle fields of life.
She prayed for me, then said Amen, in the name of Jesus Christ.
From the death house of San Quentin I walked away a better man.
Some how my Momma’s prayers had worked again.
