Mentioned that also, but with the oil slick coming decided that probably isn't a good idea.

We were going to try to visit Ocean City, Maryland next month. It's a beautiful place! The news said that the oil spill shouldn't reach that far. Other than that, I'm out of ideas.

Re: Vacation for Kids

Most "tourist" destination cities have many options.

Rapid City, SD takes advantage of Mt Rushmore visitors and there are lots of cool things.
A Maze, museums, Storybook Island, tubing on Rapid Creek...endless activities.

There are probably cities near you with "tourist trap" possibilites.
Tour a food factory.
Zoo
hiking trails
are you near any caves ?.........I've seen several and it's a unique experience.

Many motels now include a water park inside

Re: Vacation for Kids

Its for my great niece and nephews. They live in La and the two little tykes don't do great for long distance by car.

They have a season pass this year to the water park and have been going there about once a week.

Now if they come and see me I can take them to the Houston Zoo and Galveston isn't that much further. We took them to Kemah earlier this year and only the oldest one really enjoyed that. The 8 year old is afraid to ride most of the rides and the youngest has no fear! That can be dangerous.

In fact, he likes to get on the back of the sofa and put his hands by his sides and free fall backwards. I don't know why he keeps busting his teeth, getting black eyes and etc. tic He loves the adrenlin rush.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Been there a few times and I disagree. I enjoyed a few nice meals, but outside that There was not much to do...
