Pel's post said it all--the most noteworthy part of this thread: SARAH PALIN is NOT the one who said something controversial.  (And I don't consider the comment to be out of the ordinary anyway. I grew up in a home where the idea of protecting your home and family with lethal force was not only common, but to be expected.) I've heard lots of similar comments over the years, spoken in good humor, but with truth behind them.
If someone moved in next door to me for the sole purpose of observing my family and me, I would erect a privacy fence, too. Amazing that anyone thinks there's anything wrong with that. Let an author rent a house next door to a celebrity for the purpose of observing them and see what happens.
