earlier someone posted about failing in the lying area and then folks started posting about Rahab. My main point is we can use situation like hers to justify our lying today.
As far as put in a situation where someones life at stake, not sure what I do, but do know it's amazing what God can do when we are placed in difficult situations.
Bottom line:
Rev 21:27
27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life

Re: Is it Ethical?
It's not normally right to punch someone. But if you were walking down the road and someone grabbed your wife or one of your kids and tried to run off with them, I'll bet you'd tackle them and punch them.
Jesus said to turn the other cheek. But I think we'd all agree that he'd be just fine with your protecting your wife or child.
Sometimes life isn't all black and white.

Hope I'd do what God would wanted me to. We are weak humans but when God shows up in the fire with us he can get us through it. I've learned not say what I wouldn't or would do.

Re: Is it Ethical?
In thinking about the answer to my own question - what would I do in the instance of the Nazis or the slave-owners - I thought to myself... "Well, I'd try to find a way to phrase my answer so that it wouldn't actually be a lie." BUT. That would still be deception, wouldn't it? And deception is lying with your actions. So.....
I'm right back where I started. No easy answer.

Wouldn't apply because if someone grabbed my child/wife I wouldn't be the one getting punched to have to turn the cheek.

I think for us christians it boils down to God being God and being there with us giving us the right path to take even though couldn't see it beforehand.

It is a lie and I would have lied just like them.

Re: Is it Ethical?
I was traveling with a "missionary" and they wanted to raise money to build a church and I heard him tell his wife..."Just take a picture of any empty lot the Americans will never know the difference..." He was true saying the Americans would never know the difference but I personally couldn't do something like that...the longer I stayed around them I watched how easy it was for them to lie...
I guess I am odd but I did not feel good around someone that I highly esteemed at first...
WE are not perfect, we all fail and many times things don't go as planned however we can strive to do things the best we can.

It's ok because Rahab and Moses lied too.

TS, I think you know that's not what anyone is saying. They are just saying that it seems like there were times when an exception was made. For a particular reason, not just because 'I think I'll tell a lie'.
